Proposal Ref: LP/2642
Proposal Overview
Following the liquidation of a range of Model Agencies during the last twelve months, we are introducing a guideline for client's monies. - Author: Institute of Modeling
The Full ProposalAn Agent acts on a client's behalf (Models), to charge and collect for monies owed for an assignment. In some cases Agencies may make keep monies collected to the end of each month, prior to making payment. In some circumstances, the agent may deduct amounts from earnings to pay towards future development, portfolio shoots etc.
All monies held by the Agent on behalf of the Model should be kept within a seperate client account. To do this you must contact your bank, ask to setup a bank account;
- Name the account ; (Model Agency Name First) Client Account
- Have written confirmation from the bank that these monies are held by the company as trustees and do not make up capital of the business.
- Have written confirmation that the bank has no rights to set-off or counterclaim this money in the event of insolvency.
You should ensure that these monies are reconciled and correct every 14-days.

Proposal Ref: LP/2641
Proposal Overview
No upfront fees should be charged by Model Agencies - Author: Institute of Modeling
The Full Proposal
Due to the amount of exploitation of young models, it is proposed that up-front fees should be banned. This includes administration or registration fees for any Model Agencies.
The Model may be required to have professional photo's / Comp Cards produced prior to been formally accepted onto the Agency Books. Although this is acceptable, paying for photos to an 'associate' should not be a prerequisite of the offer. The Model should be able to utilise any photographer that they wish to.
If the agency organises these photos and comp card printing, it is acceptable to have these costs deducted from income generated from works the model receives from the agency. The conditions to this is that interest is not charged on the sum and that the model is made aware of the costs prior to work being carried out.

Proposal Ref: LP/2629
Proposal Overview
"Banning size zero" has been the slogan of the last two years. The Institutes BMI index proves to be a more trustworthy method of regulating the modeling industry. - Author: Institute of Modeling
The Full ProposalEver Since the tragic loss of Eliana Ramos and her sister Luisel from eating disorders, the public has wanted a change to the way in which petite models are exploited for their 'extreme' appearances. Banning size zero is not the solution to the problem, better understanding of nutrition is the better option.
Unfortunately the problem with banning size zero is that there are naturally petite models who would be disadvantaged through this option. Instead the method we have adopted following consultation with various partners is that of a BMI grading system. This system means that models under a 18 BMI or over a 30 BMI would be shown as 'non-conforming'.
Our advice is that only models between 18-30 BMI be used by agents. Should an agent use a model outside of this scope who then becomes ill because of their size, we would investigate the agent for exploitation.
A range of advice is available from our partners should a model need help in maintaining a healthy balance.
