Authenticity
Authenticity and protecting your reputation for models, scouts and agencies is a critical part of the trade. During 2006 and 2007 during an independent review undertaken by the Model Industry Union, we found that over 30% of people had discovered they had been approached by a ‘fraud‘ trying to pass themselves off as a known figure within the industry.
Benchmarking
As more and more members implement the Code so it will be easier to extract benchmarks for circulation to other members. Other research and surveys are run on an ad hoc basis.
Discounts
As a member you will receive a range of discounts on items such as gym membership, travelling, accounting, make-up, websites and equipment, as well as reduction in the price of workshops and portfolios from our supporters.
Enhanced your profile
We regularly ask our members to provide us with examples of good practice which we can highlight in newsletters, handbooks, events and through media coverage.
Exchange of information
We facilitate the exchange of information between members and partners either by passing on work (such as research findings) generously made available, or by putting members in touch with expert advice such as legal, accounting or nutritional/eating.
Free materials
Most sponsored research we undertake includes the cost of one free copy of the final output per member organisation. Other free materials are posted on our website for download.
Increase your bookings
You will receive more work as a member, our dispute and mediation service means that your customers can rest assured that every member of the organisation is accountable. At the same time, all of our members are given support in disputes against their customers.
Information
When you have a question about a policy, a new piece of legislation, a contract, a job offer or anything related to your trade within the model and fashion industry, we will endeavour to find an answer from a fellow member, from our own resources or from external sources such as our partners.
Networking
We offer opportunities to become involved in working groups on key aspects of the industry. In addition we provide various opportunities to network at groups, workshops, conferences and other events.
Newsletter
In electronic or printed version - you may ask for printed versions if you do not have access to emails.
Recognition
International recognition for good practice in the fashion and modelling industry takes the form of the Model Industry Union quality mark. As you implement the Code of conduct, you become eligible for quality marks which are available for you to use on any of your media.
Shaping our agenda
Members are encouraged to tell us what legislation and policy they think needs to be introduced and amended, in terms of research for example, and would be better done by a central resource such as us than by individual agencies.
Supporting your business
As you work to implement the Model Industry Union standards we support you with practical help on the process and on practices you wish to improve.
Taxation
Models and scouts quite often neglect to file tax returns for their work, however, anyone charging for a service that isn‘t taxed at source should be completing a return. We offer a range of tools and templates to help! Remember especially during your early career you may even get tax refunds.
