The decisions by London Central Employment Tribunal follow investigations by the EAS, which is part of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Ifran Khan of Islington, London, ran Platinum Models and was banned for seven years whilst Michael Brown of Malaga, Spain, ran Target Models and was banned for five years. Mr Khan operated Platinum Models from an address in Canary Wharf.  Target Models traded in the Holborn area of London. Both judgements are effective from 1 August 2010.

The Tribunal heard how Platinum Models breached the law by:

    * charging fees to models before any work-finding services were provided;
    * repeated failures to provide the EAS investigators with the information they requested and obstructing the investigators in the exercise of their enforcement powers;
    * not operating a client account as required by the relevant regulations; and
    * issuing terms of employment to models that did not comply with the relevant regulations.

The Tribunal also heard how Target Models breached the law by:

    * deducting commission fees from payments due to models and charging a commission fee to hirers booking models;
    * holding payments to models for longer than 10 days;
    * failing to provide records that showed they recorded details of job requests from the hirer, records of booking details from the hirer, a copy of the terms issued to the hirer, or copies of applications from models;
    * paying money received on behalf of models into the business account rather than the client account; and
    * only issuing very basic terms of employment to models that did not comply with the relevant regulations.

EAS brought these cases under the Employment Agencies Act 1973.  New regulations that protect workers come into force on 1 October 2010, which tighten the restrictions on the charging of up-front fees in the entertainment and modelling sectors.

Edward Davey, the Minister responsible for employment relations, said:

“Unfortunately there is a history of exploitation in some parts of the modelling sector by unscrupulous agencies but these verdicts should act as a warning signal to them.

“We will take action against rogue recruiters in London, and across the country, who flout the law and undermine the vast majority of agencies who play fairly.”

Liam Fowkes from Birmingham posed as a Model Agent from California in a bid to get girls as young as 14 to strip on webcams. Often these strips turned into lewd requests of sexual acts. 

Fowkes was brought to our attention days after the police originally arrested Fowkes for luring a 15 year old girl from Essex to strip on cam. He had been involved in similar requests under the ID of a female model agent, seeking young models.

Today (29th July), Liam Fowkes was handed a 14 months sentence in a young offenders institute and made to sign the sex offenders register which he shall remain on for 10 years.  We are pleased by the sentence handed down by Zeidman QC, giving a clear message that this type of crime will not be tolerated.

Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer which mainly affects children under 5 years of age. Spotting one of the signs or symptoms of retinoblastoma can be a scary thought for any parent or relative, but finding out about what to do next can help to ensure any symptoms are checked out quickly and the child can receive any treatment they may need.

Retinoblastoma is very rare; only about 50 children are diagnosed with the condition each year in Great Britain. It is also very treatable, especially if caught early. Around 98% of children are successfully treated.

The signs of retinoblastoma which are described below can also be caused by other less severe conditions and can sometimes be due to the angle of the light when a photograph is taken.

The signs to look out for

A white reflex: A white reflexion can be seen in a photograph where the flash has been used. Often one eye will have "red eye" which is normal but the other eye may look white, yellow or orange. This may be seen in just one or many photographs of the child.


A white reflex may also be seen when the child is in artificial light or a darkish room. Some parents say that it looks like a cat's eye caught in light or that they think they can see the back of their child's eye, other parents say it looks like jelly. This white reflex may only be seen every so often but in some cases it is present all the time.

An absence of "red eye" in flash photographs: In a photograph where one eye has "red eye" (which is normal) the other eye may look black or looks "wrong". This can also be a sign that something is not right.

A squint: A squint can be a sign of retinoblastoma, although a squint can also be nothing more than a squint. It is always worth having it checked out quickly just to make sure. Some people call a squint a "lazy eye"; it is where one or both eyes look in or out.

Deterioration in vision: A child may have deterioration in their vision or they may have had poor vision from birth. You may notice that the child does not focus or fix & follow as well as other children or babies of the same age.

Red, sore or swollen eye: A child's eye may become very red and enflamed for no reason. This sign is usually linked with other signs.

A change in colour to the iris: The iris, the coloured part of the eye, can sometimes change colour, sometimes only in one area.


If the child is aged five or younger and you have noticed one or more of the signs above always take them to have their eyes examined.

The most important thing to do if you see any of these symptoms is to get advise the childs parent or guardian to get the child's eyes examined. It is very important to do this quickly just in case the child needs to start treatment.

The stunning Australian Miranda Kerr is expecting her first child with Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom. 

Having recently returned from their honeymoon, the 27-year-old Victoria's Secret Model has confirmed to friends that she is expected.  A friend of the model goes on to say; "She's telling all her friends, mostly other models, about it.". 

Although nobody has received official annoucements from the couple, it seems very unlikely they will be able to hide the news much longer;

"She poses in lingerie. It will be obvious soon enough."

Kerr has never hidden her desire to become a mother;

"I have always been very open about wanting to be a mother one day," she recently told an newspaper. "And I've always thought Orlando would be a great dad!"

Most wanted face of 2009, Lara Stone is in progress of putting together a legal suit against French Playboy for publishing photos taken by photographer Greg Lotus in their June 2010 edition of the popular magazine.

Lara goes on to say; "It's not the kind of publication I would ever choose to appear in. Playboy had no right to publish these unauthorised photographs. I feel I have no option but to take steps to protect my reputation."

This case could set a standard for other models.  We continue to stress to both models and photographers to ensure that Model Releases are signed and that the use is stipulated within the contract.

Never one that you could accuse of being shy or retiring, its perhaps no surprise that at 55 the veteran supermodel has just completed a shoot wearing nothing but a pair of feels.  Although helped along with "some" surgery, Janice is still stunning, looking better than some of the models half her age.

At 5'11" the supermodel and mother of two still boards only a size six frame, but does go on to tell Closer magazine of the hard work and committment that goes along with the surgeons knife.

'I have to make sure I exercise and that the ingredients that go into my body are completely organic.

'I relax, meditate and do 80 minutes of yoga every day. I hike and make sure everything I eat is organic. I eat steamed fish, chicken and turkey, plus salads, carrot juice and supplements.'

Janice goes on to tell Closer magazine: 'I love my body, but it's a compulsive obsession.

Lorraine Pascale a hugely successful 90’s model; who was the first ever British black woman to grace the cover to American Elle as well as having worked with Versace and Dorran Karan.  Being a very ‘down to earth’ model, Lorraine realised that her modelling career would not last forever and trained as a chef and came on to become a master baker.

 ‘My fashion background does influence my baking. I wanted to make sure my cakes were easily identifiable, so the design is very different. I also go for seasonal colours, what’s going on with the fashions – like fashion cupcakes with bags and heels on them. Cupcakes are quite retro, and my shop is too. Cupcakes are about comfort, a taste of home cooking, childhood and cosiness.’

As always we encourage all models to gain additional skills whilst working, although the occasion model may enjoy full careers, many will not and just have additional skills to “fall back on”.

A young aspiring model from Merseyside has missed out on her dreams of competing within the Miss England finals, after taking part in a topless photo shoot.

The young model was on her way to taking the national title after winning the Miss Every Model award.  However, her joy at this and the progression to the Miss England finals were short lived when someone tipped off the organisers that she had broken the rules and posed topless just days before the competition without informing the organisers.

Siobhan has now been stripped of the Miss Every Model title and has also been disqualified from competing within the Miss England contest.

Ruth Deane, editor of Every Model Magazine, said: “Every effort is taken to ensure all applicants comply with the rules of entry to Miss England.

“There is no discrimination in respect of modelling genres within our publication.

“However rules are rules and a contestant cannot attend the final of the Miss England competition if they have broken one.

“The decision made is clearly in line with the rules, but still difficult to implement. I am protective and supportive of all my contestants and want the best for all of them.

“I believe that the outcome not only does this, but best outlines the importance of honesty and integrity along with highlighting the necessity of complying with rules and regulations.”

Kelly Soo Park, 44 was charged with the murder of Juliana Redding a aspiring fashion model and actress.  It is thought that the model was murdered as part of some form of revenge because of a failed business deal.

Juliana Redding’s father Greg Redding was involved in a business deal with Dr Uwaydah a physical who was convicted of defrauding a medical company in 2005.  Prosecutors in the case claimed that the money for the killing came from Park’s employer (Dr Uwaydah).

Juliana died from a blunt force trauma, although police have not released any further details regarding the method of attacked.

Juliana landed a role in a small 2005 movie and was featured in a photo layout in Maxim magazine, winning one of the magazine's "Hometown Hottie" contests.

Police said there could be more arrests in the case.

A promising young model Jo Minto, had all be given up on her life long dream of becoming a model after she was struck in the face by a pint glass.

Having been blinded in one eye and her face having heavy scarring; the prospect of getting back into the industry looked unlikely. Jo received 35 facial stitches and the doctors took four days to remove all the glass from her face. “I couldn’t look in the mirror for ages” Jo says, having accidentally catching her reflection some days after; she burst into tears.  Fearing she would be “like a scarred monster for the rest of her life”.

"I thought it was all over, I thought that was that, done" she said. "And I began focusing on my IT career"

Today, thanks to the excellent plastic surgeons that worked on Jo the says after the attack, the only physical reminder is a small lump of scar tissue on her forehead.

Her sight stabilised and injuries healed, she has revived her dream and sought a return to the limelight

"I thought 'stuff it, give it another go and get back into it'," Jo how now been signed up with several agencies and is starting to win some excellent contracts. "The work has been flooding in," she said "It has given me a real confidence boost to see that people want to work with me again and everything has spiralled from there,"

She is also leading an internet poll to win a photoshoot with popular lads' magazine Nuts.

We truly hope that Jo’s career continues to grow and wish her all the very best for a prosperous career.

A young girl who suffers from a rare syndrome called Holts Oram (causes defect in hands and heart), has spoke of her joy after reaching the finals of a nationwide modelling competition.

Frankie Raye, from Cirencester, Gloucestershire is hugely excited “I am really happy, this is the big one!!”
Frankie’s positive outlook is almost infectious “No matter what you are, you can always achieve your dreams”  Frankie and her extended family make up over 10% of the suffers Holts Oram worldwide; a painful and sometimes disabling  illness.  Since moving to Kinghill School, Frankie’s parents have been a massive improvement in her confidence.

We think Frankie has a very promising outlook; as well as getting through to the finals of the Miss Cyberface, Frankie is also about to take a starring role in ‘Hairspay’ and has just been signed by a top talent agency.

Viveka Babaji, known to many as the “Karma Sutra Girl” was found dead on Friday 25th June, hanging from the ceiling fan in her apartment in Mumbai.  Although many in the Indian media seem to think there is something more suspicious; it is thought Viveka has been suffering depression since her split with long term boyfriends.

Viveka, who was just 37 will probably be best remembered for her role as the “Karma Sutra Condom girl” from the 90’s.  Now in her late thirties, Viveka was reporting to have had a problem of recent months with depression, one friend goes on to say;

"way over what she used to. She once lost her cool during the rehearsal of an event recently. She shouted at people, asking, 'Do you have any idea what I'm going through?'”

As we have said to medical experts, government ministers and industry experts; mental health in all performing arts is something that needs to be closely monitored. By the very nature of the ability that helps performers to perform; also makes them a greater risk of depression and suicidal tendencies.

Tom Nicon, 22 from France was found dead after falling four floors from an apartment in Milan City Centre.

Although the death is been treated as a suicide, Italian police are investigating.

It is believed that Tom had been having relationship issues and recently broken up with his girlfriend. The police told sources at the Mail newspaper;

"We have spoken to the friends he was staying with and they have told us that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was depressed,"

Donatella Versace is one of many that have already spoken out in support of this young supermode;

"He had already done three of four shows with us and he was a sweet boy, We just can't understand why he did what he did — we would never have thought he would do something like this."

Teenage model hopeful Stacey Courage has been left with over 60 cuts to the face and torso, after being forced off the road by a dangerous driver.  The 17-year old who is worried about being scarred for life goes on to say;

"My bike went head-first into barbed wire and the car just drove off, left me.

"The driver has ruined my face. And my life. I wanted to take up modelling."

Although the scars do pose a very real risk of scarring with the modern plastic surgery techniques its more than likely the long-term effects will not pose any long-term effect on Stacey's ability to model.

Lloyd Eugene Bailey is on trial at Nova Scotia Court on three charges of sexual assault with a weapon. The crime is alleged to have happened in December 2008 at a hotel in Halifax.

The court was told that the evidence to be presented will quite clearly show  "quite simply will show evil in its truest face,". Mark Heerema prosecuting believes he has a very strong case against the accused with 25 witnesses being called over the trial which is expected to take 10 days.

"The evidence in this case is shocking," he says.

Bailey first met the 19-year-old when she was working in a pizza shop. Bailey then over a period befriended the alleged victim and told the teen he was involved with a scuba shop, who were looking for swimwear models. He is alleged to have tempted the model further with offers of pay in excess of $1,000.

It is alleged that the Bailey tied the models hands together because she was finding it difficult to hold a pose. After threatening to kill her the defendant he is accused of sexually assulting the woman with a cucumber.

The woman was able to escape when hotel management, alerted by other guests, began knocking on the door.

Evidence to be presented in the case include photos of the ligature marks on the models neck and burst blood vessels.

Macdonald a judge on TV show “Britains Next Top Model” spoke out today against the recent increase in plus size models, branding plus size models “a joke”. In an interview Macdonald goes on to say about the reality show;

‘This is a serious show. A Catwalk model is a size six to eight. You can’t have a plus size girl winning – it makes it a joke.’

Yet again demonstrating the idiocies of people that think they can make sweeping statements.  Macdonalds Debenhams range goes upto a size 18, I wonder how many dresses he will sell if he marked every dress of his over a size 8 “you’re a joke”.

Macdonald who was honoured by the Queen with an OBE in 2006 demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the industry.  This industry is changing, if dinosaurs like Macdonald can’t accept this then perhaps there is no room in the industry for him.

The list of support for curvier models is endless and whilst supermodels like Cystal Renn are strutting their stuff this industry will change. It is an evolving industry, one which will focus more on health and well-being than making it easier for designers that are incapable of cutting designs to fall well of curves, these designers should stick at designing menswear.

British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman urged designers last year to increase the sizes to prevent the models being hired with ‘jutting bones and no breasts or hips’.

Macdonald goes on further: 'It’s not fair on them – you’re setting them up for a fall – I know what would happen to them afterwards,' he said.

I’m sure Tyra Banks would disagree with this, having just crowned a size 16 model as the winner of the previous series of America’s next top model.

Sophie was at the De Montfort University Contour Fashion Show at Freemason's Hall in London. Showcasing some of the works from the Leicester Universities Fashion and Design department, we are all hoping this is the start of Sophie getting back into more mainstream fashionshows.

The 33-year old beauty posed in a futuristic costume, showing that she hasn't lost any of ability of fitness; out shining models ten years younger.

The chairman of the Fringe John Galliano is one of the most respected geniuses of the fashion world; having being the creative director of Christian Dior for the past decade and having his own label.

The Fashion Fringe party, at the Ivy, attracted some of the biggest stars, including Kate Moss, Daphne Guinness, designers Gareth Pugh and Erdem, Milliner Stephen Jones, the chairman of the British Fashion Council, Harold Tillman, Amanda Harlech the ex-Galliano ‘muse’ and now ‘style-angel’ for Karl Lagerfeld.

We always look forward to the finals and to see whether the winner has the potential to follow on from previous winner Erdem Moralioglu.

London Gatwick Fashion Week

London Gatwick Fashion Week will take place in Gatwick’s North terminal on 5th – 8th August 2010.  Showcasing this summer’s hottest trends, the model winners will make their fashion debut along with a host of other model beauties and international supermodel Lily Cole.   London Gatwick Fashion Week is a celebration of the fantastic retail offering at the airport, with a whole host of top high street and designers such as Ted Baker, Mango and All Saints, all offering up to 30 per cent off high street prices.

Hollyoaks stunner Jennifer Metcalfe shows off her well toned figure on holiday in Marbella, Spain as she tries out the new style of bikini.

31-year-old Linzi Stoppard stripped naked to advertise magnificent violins created by Swarovski.  Each violin is graced with some 50,000+ crystals and carry price tags in the region of £1 million.

Linzi, who is represented by London Model Agent; Models1 doesn’t get outshone by these stunning instruments; showing that even after 10 years in the model game; she is still capable of producing stunning poses with just a violin covering her.

A few years ago, the site would have been incomprehensible; half naked models opening for one of the high societies most prominent days.  However, as more diverse crowds have been attracted to the show, so have the organisers had to re-think opening acts.

This years opening show was one not to miss, as an army of gorgeous models paraded for the camera ahead of the opening day.   Our favourite highlight was a pair of Australian bikini models in the spa.

However, there were several different acts; all stunning!

The Queen also appeared to enjoy the show, touring the Australian garden. Although she was not commenting on any of the acts during the day.

Chelsea Flower show has never been in our diaries for fashion of models, but will be looking forward to see if there are any further spectacular shows next year.

Gisele, has been named again as the worlds top earning model. Earning a staggering £17 million, however, given her amazing ability and look – we can all understand why.

The 29-year Brazilian topped the Forbes list; with Heidi Klum, 36-years old, coming in second at £11m and our own home grown beauty Kate Moss coming in third, with a reported income of £6m.

Many are playing the fact that these three models were last years top three earnings down to the recession and that industries were ‘playing it safe’ with existing contacts; rather than trying new talent.

However, these are three of the very best models in the world, anyone that has had the privilege of seeing them working will agree their dedication and ability are second to none and reason enough for their success.

Kelly said the collection was 'beautiful' and added: 'If you get the foundation right, everything else will just fall into place.'

Fresh supermodel Noemie Lenoir, famous for her campaigns with Gap and Victorias Secret was found unconscious on Sunday after an apparent suicide attempt.

The attempt is thought to have resulted from a painful breakup with her ex partner, soccer star Claude Makele.  Noemie was very fortunate that she was found by a man walking his dog in a forest just outside of Paris.

According to the Daily Mail, friends of the model say she was “in a state of great distress and clearly very ill. She had clearly attempted to harm herself and fallen unconscious.”

Lenoir is currently in an English hospital recovering from the incident.

The American supermodel is the global winner of FHM Magazines Sexiest women in the world poll – voted for by more than million votes.

She gains the title from last years winner Megan Fox (another American model). Marisa has numerous covers and contracts under her belt and is the face of major brands such as Harley-Davidson and Victoria’s Secret.

The 31-year old who has been modelling for the past 15 years shows no sign of giving up and although she hasn’t reached household name status that some of her contemporaries; we are sure this new award will help with this.

But Marisa, is unlikely to let this award get to her,  she has previously said: 'I get a kick out of it, but it would be stupid to let it go to my head. It’s modelling - I didn’t find the cure for cancer.'

Newspapers across the world have been quite harsh to Naomi Campbell for the past few years, perhaps for her battling with paparazzi or the general arrogance demonstrated by her during various contact with the media.

Naomi who was told Oprah Winfrey this week that she didn’t want to make any excuses for her bad behaviour could help herself, making pleas to explain why she keeps losing it!

“It comes from a deeper place than that with me. It comes from another type of emotional disorder because it's not just if I don't get what I want I throw a fit... It comes from, I think, an abandonment issue ... if I feel a mistrust, then... all my cards go down,” she goes on to say during the interview.  

The Institute of Modeling never, agrees with any violent acts (regardless of who carries them out), however, we can’t help but agree Naomi has issues.  Surely the newspapers would agree it is not normal to assault your assistant with a mobile phone, or try and attack two police officers.  

We have already touched on the mental health issues caused by the industry and equally the people with issues that are attracted to it. We hope if Naomi really believes her actions are caused by some deep seated issues, that she gets counselling for them soon!

Rootstein, a British Company and one of the largest producers of mannequins in the world in unveiling its “Young and Restless” collection, which is reported to include a male mannequin with a 35 inch chest and 27inch waist.  This is 11 inches small than the average Male in the UK, and an unacceptable ‘ideal’ for anyone over 16 to work towards.

The company insist that the mannequins were modelled on teenage boys; however, with these mannequins being used to model adult sizes of popular tailoring made fashionable by the likes of Russell Brand, we feel it is yet another irresponsible move by a company without any thought to the consequences.

We at the Institute of Modeling are having more reports of eating disorders involving young men between the ages of 18-22; being caused by more of the unrealistic aims retail and fashion are putting on young people.

Kevin Arpino, creative director at the firm was responsible for the designs of the mannequins, requests that these could increase any eating disorders.

"It is a collection dictated by current fashion trends for skinny jeans and very tight tailoring, as seen everywhere from Topman to Gucci and in the edgier fashion magazines like Numéro.
"None of the boys we used were remotely anorexic. They were just teenagers – the oldest one was 20, I think – so they were pubescent really.
"It's a trend which you can see in celebrities and rock stars – Russell Brand has a little bit to do with it. But I am sure that muscle boys will have their time again."

Given the NHS statistics suggest an average male waist as being 38 inches, surely having a fashionable aim, regardless of trend being nearly a foot skinnier is unacceptable.

During a recent poll undertaken by the Institute of Modeling, only 12% of women interviewed preferred featherweight male models, with a massive 41% preferring the 32-34 inch male model.   

The 42-year-old actress turn part-time model was reportedly very excited at being asked to work with the glamorous brand.  She is at the stage in her life that she feels confident in herself and look.

"The whole idea of modelling in my 40s seems grown-up and elegant," she goes on to say "There's an amusement about it that I probably wouldn't have had if I had done it when I was younger, because there's a kind of confidence in who I am today."

Julia has been a fan of the brand for many years.  She goes on to say she is a huge fan of kohl, explaining some of her younger dream;

"I love eyeliner. I always think if I put on enough, I'll turn into Sophia Loren!" she explained to InStyle magazine. "But it never did happen."

We think it very exciting that we are seeing more 40 plus models working with large brands.  Julia is as gorgeous today as in the Pretty Woman 20 years ago! Testament to her ability to age gracefully whilst still being a scorcher!

Stephanie Carta the model whom has strutted for Vogue, walked for Givenchy’s Couture and is well known as Balenciaga’s favourite model. However, she recently made it back to where she started out, sporting New Zealand designers.

Her first modelling contract was for Sabatini White in 2003 at New Zealand Fashion Week; and she has just sported the designer’s knitwear at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

Carta began her debut as her mother was born in Auckland, she has now been reunited with what she started; the designs that she remembered as ‘cute and comfortable’. However the latest collection has been described as hot and sexy.

The collection was called the Three faces of Eve; it was based on the film from 1957 which follows the same name. All inspired by the main character, Eve and her three different personalities.

Styling the models in their figure clenching dresses was the blogger and Vogue editor, Romy Frydman. “What I loved about the collection was the different use of knits in one garment and different textiles. It's so beautifully put together that I didn't want to take anything away from that,” said the stylist whom kept it simple to compliment gorgeous ruffles and lace cardigans.

Sabatini was started in New Zealand fifty years ago, the brand is now the best selling label in David Jones, Australian Department store. “A lot of brands come and go, we have a bit of history, and people want to know why we're still here. They're interested in our longevity”, said Margi Milich.

With an end to such a difficult year in the fashion industry; the Australian Fashion Week sports one of the most extensive years that they have had so far. With prestigious men such as, Eric Wright tipping up to the catwalk the shows were certainly set to impress.

Eric Wright worked with Karl Lagerfeld for twenty three years, also working alongside Chloe, Trussardi, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, and France's Faconnable which up until recent occasions, her was creative director.

Wright was actually attending former 80’s Supermodel, Gail Elliott as she unveiled her designs at her Little Joe Women Show. “I am really impressed with her work, especially the attention to detail and quality of finishes for the garment,” Eric believed. “Not all models make great fashion designers, but Gail always had a creative sensibility and it is showing through in her clothes.”

Gail will be using fellow models to help promote her gorgeous maxi dresses, Kaftans, denim jumpsuits and traditionally short shorts. Helena Christensen, Yasmin Le Bon and Cindy Crawford glamorously strutted down the runways supporting oversized jewellery, voluptuous hair and sunglasses.

Alex Perry has also had a good week; with one of the biggest shows Sydney had experienced. His team of 300 models, publicists’ stylists and hairdressers helped to bring the Arabian Princess themed-show to light.

Perry believed that is was ‘time to celebrate the good times’; with the show estimated to have cost him a whooping $200,000. The 130-metre catwalk almost guaranteed the 1300 Sydney VIPs their front row seats and a fantastic evening.

With Perry’s classic look of big hair, plenty of cleavage provided an eclectic atmosphere for the socialite guests. Zimmerman also had a successful show.

The student studying musical theatre at Hull College successfully rocked at the three day, alternative fashion event in London; taking centre stage Kitty showcased in 15 shows in the three days.

“I loved doing Alternative Fashion Week. There is nothing more exhilarating than walking down the runway, with 50 photographers snapping away and everyone looking at you”, the 21 year old commented. “I wore everything from Lady Gaga-inspired PVC catsuits to see-through blouses.”

Kitty Griffiths was sporting 70 designers, all newly anticipating the reactions to their eclectic designs. She has recently been signed to Rouge Maidens; the agency for alternative models and so far, she has modeled at regional finals of the L'Oreal Colour Trophy Awards and celebrity photographer Rankin, for his ‘ordinary people’ project.

“I am a total exhibitionist, and I was not bothered what they put me in,” she believed. “At the start of each day they would line the models up and the designers would pick you if they liked you. Your body was scrutinized, but I am comfortable with my body.”

She is also greatly awaiting the catwalk she is launching in Hull in September; photographer Chris Oaten will be helping her with the initiation. With local Opera singers, designers tattoo artists and a variety of performers attending; the show has set high hopes.

Hundreds of potential models from all over Ireland all made their way over too Belfast for the excellent opportunity to become the next face of high street chain, DV8. The brand launched its competition five weeks ago, in the hope to find a gorgeous male and female between sixteen and thirty.

The shop that has 26 shops in Northern Ireland and Scotland; saw the arrivals of their aspiring beauties at 7.30am all with intentions of impressing model agent Alison Campbell; celebrity hairdresser Paul Stafford and one of Ireland’s best known photographers, Khara Pringle: the judges.

400 models attended the event in which Alison described as the “equivalent of X Factor for Northern Ireland models”. She went on to say, “We had so many great and diverse looks, it was very difficult to whittle it down to 10 females and 10 males for the next round”.

The competition has been known to establish supermodels; Carrie-Anne Burton went to the competition in 2008 and has gone on to work with Chanel and John Rocha. With models such as Erin O’Connor, Elizabeth Hurley and Jerry Hall; who are signed to Tess Management with the twenty year old.
“When someone walks in here we know whether they are what we are looking for. Having a personality really helps, but ultimately we are looking for someone who can carry the cool brand of DV8. They have to have that edge,” Stafford commented. “After whittling it down to the next stage we will get up close and personal with the contestants.”

Charity Event organised by The New Hampshire Food Bank; saw many extraordinary designs as models walked out in an array of colour, complete with parrots, castles and ships.  

The show named as Fantasy Hair Competition was certainly not an understatement; contestants were arriving from 9am and working solidly until 7pm on their prestigious creations.

The theme was ‘Ports of Call’ from all around the world and with a $7,000 prize up for grabs, they most definitely pulled out all their tricks. The participants were judged on their creativeness, over-all appearance and the model's presentation on stage.

All the models wooed the crowd, with attention to detail the world was brought to us; as each model walked on to the runway we would experience yet another culture and country with coral reefs and castles as props attached to the models.

As seeing larger models on the runways was a shock, it is slowly becoming much more common and accepted amongst the industry; but it isn’t all over yet, those in the fashion world will have recently noted another big change and that is, AGE.

Although it appears all around us is the encouragement to look young, to prevent yourself from looking and feeling aged, it appears that fashion stylists are finally using older women to model their clothes instead of skinny minis that are in their late teens and early twenties.

The audience at the Calvin Klein show indefinitely had a shock as a grey haired beauty walked the runway in an exquisite silver flowing dress. A supermodel of the nineties, Kristen McMenamy whom is in her forties stunned crowds, despite being over the average age of models.

The designer Francisco commented on the use of older models, he used them because they ‘represent the women who actually buy my clothes’.

But, it isn’t the first time that we have seen older models grace our catwalks; with supermodels including Linda Evangelista and Shalom Harlow appearing at The Dior 60th Anniversary. Elle Macpherson also made an appearance for Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton Autumn/ Winter 2010 show. However, Elle alongside Linda are promoting youth with their anti ageing creams and youthful appearances.

Joining the grey brigade is youthful Kelly Osbourne whom has dyed her hair grey to be slightly ironic. So will grey’s be let loose, or will it continue to be a gimmick similarly to Kelly?

It appears at the same Calvin Klein show, it was opened with sixteen year old model, Jac. So the question lies upon us, will society ever accept are natural aging bodies?

Lina Marulanda sadly fell from her balcony of her sixth floor apartment; in the Colombian capital. The Model and Television presenter died instantly on Thursday, authorities commented it could have possibly been suicide as she was in the middle of a divorce with her second husband.

24 Year old, Ambrose Olsen unexpectedly died today; his sudden death has created much confusion and shock amongst the models family, friends and those in the modelling industry.

Ambrose started modelling in 2002, achieving his first major job with Raquel Zimmermann for Hugo Boss in 2003. He was later requested by the famous photographer in New York; Steven Klein. The pair worked together for the D&G shoot in 2005.

Details regarding his death are yet to be released.

Sheryl Wolfe the beautiful teenage girl had recently been crowned Miss Hawaii Teen United States; she collapsed whilst in class and was put in a coma, later dying of a stroke. Sheryl had no family history of strokes or heart disease.

Director of pediatric neurology at St. Luke's and Roosevelt hospitals, Steven Wolf believes that it is very rare for such a young girl to have a stroke, he went on to say; “Most likely, she had a blood vessel abnormality”.  “It could have been an aneurysm or an AVM, which is an abnormal collection of blood vessels that can bleed and put pressure on other blood vessels. Sometimes, a person with an AVM or aneurysm never even gets a headache. It can just blow” Wolf Commented.

It is reported that Wolfe was an organ donor and at least four people are set to receive her organs. Her father is of course distraught about the loss and comments that if he could, he would trade places.

“I would trade my life in a heartbeat,” Allen Wolfe said. “I should be the one there. She shouldn't be. My daughter, she'd light up everybody. People were down, she had the right thing to say to them as far as how to bring their spirits up.”

Sheryl was supposed to be entering Miss Hawaii Teen World competition next month, her pageant sisters are said to be paying tribute to her within the pageant. “She'll never be forgotten. She was such a wonderful girl who always made everyone smile,” Florence Villanueva who will be representing Wolfe had said; she will be wearing her swimsuit and gown. Another lady, Ashlyn Pierceall had said, “I'll miss her a lot. No regrets; Just live your life, because that's what Sheryl did.”

Model Mayhem also pays tribute to the loss of the gorgeous model, on her profile it reads: “Model Mayhem regrets to inform our community that we have been notified of this member’s passing. This page will remain open as a tribute and for members to express their thoughts and condolences. In Memoriam”.

A Modelling Agency Boss walked free from the courts after being cleared of raping a teenage hopeful model.

The teenager was helping to promote Reilly’s Uber Girl Competition and ended up staying at his flat in Merchant City, Glasgow in March last year; it is reported she had planned to stay with another girl in a separate room from Reilly.

The model whom is now 19 believes that she remembers wearing a black dress and underwear before waking up naked. “My dress was on the floor. I was really, really worried and confused.” She went onto say that she was extremely confused and concerned as memories from the prior night were blurry.
Gerry McCulluch from STV Sports Centre had told the trial about her visiting his flat after the trial:  “She was confused, in a panic. She was crying in the house and I think I remember her beginning to cry in the car. ..Her mum was not going to be home and she would be going back to an empty house. I did not feel right about that. I offered to take her to the police station. At that point, she said: ‘OK, can you take me to the police?’”
Mr. Reilly, the Model and Others had attended a glamorous fashion launch on the 28th March before going to Reilly’s flat. He claimed he had fallen asleep on the bed, with the model whom he admitted finding attractive laying next to him when he woke.
The pair allegedly had consensual sex; although Reilly was in a long term relationship at the time.
The model believes that it has ruined her career and made her feel extremely vulnerable; “This has taken my drive to do anything. I am really uncomfortable around men. I had tried to put it behind me, but I was really timid and that is not the way to be in the spotlight.”
The Jury had given Mr. Reilly a Not Guilty Verdict; and left the court after a five day trial a cleared man. However, his behavior has highlighted a worrying trend of unprofessional agents using their status to at very to entice women into their private homes/accommodation.  At very least this individual should have been prosecuted for abuse of position; however, because of the lack of control and government legislation within this industry; it is open to abuse.

You may well know diversity in the fashion industry is currently a main topic; with more shapes and figures being used than ever before, our attention to ethnicity has been drawn.

Liu Wen, a Chinese model has recently featured in the Victoria’s Secret campaign and was their first Asian model to ever walk there runways. Estee Launders are also using Liu to become there face of new campaign; their first Asian Face.

One of Estee’s top competitors; Rimmel London have also caught on to the ethnicity diversity campaign and are using Solange Knowles and Alejandra Ramos Munoz to back their brand.

Also, the in the March issue of French Vogue, they had a black model on their cover the first time since 2002. Lancome have also followed trained, making YouTube Beauty Blogger, Michelle Phan their Official Video Make up Artist.

Although Peaches may have just waved goodbye to her lingerie modelling contract; it appears as though the Geldof’s are still seeing model work come there way, with little sister shining forward.

Pixie Geldof has been chosen to model for Henry Holland; a British designer whom has just created a new range for Debenhams. The stunning blonde will be showcasing items ranging from £5 to £60 which are anticipated to sell extremely well.

“I am delighted to be a part of the Designers at Debenhams portfolio and to be working alongside a brand of such heritage,” Pixie said.

We look forward to hearing more from the Geldof sisters.

The Mother of two hated her look, so she spent thousands to make herself look like Glamour Model; Jordan.

“One day I was standing in Boots waiting to pay and this woman barged into the queue. Another woman said, ‘Oi, that lad's before you.’ When I realised she meant me I was mortified.” Hollie Henderson had told us.

The single mother had always looked up to the Glamour model, as her boyish appearance had always let her down; making her lack confidence and become depressed. “When I'd had my second child I hated by appearance, I felt overweight and frumpy.”

Hollie explains how she went home in tears after the mishap in the high street store, “I went home and cried my eyes out. One of my friends came round and tried to cheer me up by saying: ‘I don't know why you feel rubbish. You look like Jordan.’”

She didn’t see the resemblance herself,  but still went on to strive to achieve what other saw, Jordan. First, she began dieting getting her size 14 frame down to a 10; she then went on to get a credit card so that she could have a breast enhancement and  upgrade her 32B boobs to a 32DD. Liposuction and a tummy tuck followed. Hollie had spent over £85,000 to look like Jordan.

“I felt amazing, and it spiralled from there. Every time Jordan dyed her hair, I would, or I'd get extensions.” She then increased her breasts again to a, 32FF; Hollie believes it made her feel sexier and more confident.

“Jordan then started dating Peter and was all over the magazines and newspapers. Because she was popular, I'd have girls coming up to me saying how much I looked like her, and everyone was nice to me. I'd dress in skimpy outfits and show off my boobs, just like she did, and I had a ball.”

Hollie who has two sons aged seven and 10; says that she even gained modelling work from her Glamour Model work and made her living out of being a Katie Price look-a-like.

Although she enjoyed being pampering, with regular appointments at the salon for her nails and spray tan; the attention from males it quickly halted after the two reality stars split in May.

“When Jordan and Peter split, the problems started. I'd have drinks thrown at me and be called a slag and a slut. It was a nightmare.”
 
The 32 year old said, “Until then, at least people respected her as a business-woman - and I did too - but now she's a bit of a joke. People started to roll their eyes at me like I was a bimbo, and call me names. Girls would sneer at me. It got to the stage where I hated going out. I felt embarrassed.”

Hollie has now ditched the Katie Price image:  getting rid of the hair extentions, stopping the spray tans and has spent over six thousand pound on a breast reduction; “I'm going for the understated look. I'm 32 and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb.”

Miss Henderson is now comfortable with the way she looks and her confident is still high, without having to impersonate a glamour model.

Just an average family, but aside from just genes and appearance that they share; it appears that all three have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Rebecca, father Peter and sister, Stephanie Lange have all had thyroid’s removed and each have a small scar at the base of their necks.

Rebecca had to undergo radiation therapy back in October 2008, she had missed her first day at college so she could have a sonogram to check her thyroids were not changing.

Rebecca soon found out about the American Cancer Society’s event, Couture for Cancer through her sorority and was keen to help. In 2009, she became a runway model for the event, sporting a Jenny Packham dress. She is set to model again this year, wearing a Teri Jon gown.

“I loved it so much,” Rebecca said. “I love the live auction and themodeling. It still amazes me how this event is put on and how much money they can raise for the cause.”

Couture for Cancer features many of the renowned fashion designers from around the world, with last year’s event raising around $70,000; this year is anticipated to reach a new level with a New York Fashion Week trip up for grabs!

The lucky winner will receive four days and three nights, air fair and flights included; a chance to meet Toni Hacker and Katherine Kwei  and will be able to pick out a bag with each designer.

Gladly, there have been more donations from national fashion designers and retailers including, Hayden-Harnett, Isharya, Jessica Kagan Cushman, Juicy Couture and Pour La Victoire.

With reservations starting at $65, it is an event not to be missed!

Claudine Keane, the 27 year old mother of one seems to have landed herself and extremely sought modelling contract which has previously used Sarah Harding, Jade Jagger and Melinda Messenger.

Claudine, whom Models with Assets Model Agency in Dublin, luckily achieved the latest face of Ultimo, the beautiful lingerie retailer. It was reported that should we receive a six digit cheque for just one season of modelling; she will be replacing Jenni Falconer from GMTV, for the seductive ‘Adore Moi’ Collection.

It was originally planned that the model would work alongside Peaches Geldof; but since recent events Geldof was dropped. Ms Mone, the self made millionaire believes it was impossible to keep Peaches after the headlines.

Claudine is certainly a positive representative with a first class degree in Economics and Finance; she will be working alongside Kelly Brooke the current face and body of Ultimo. A replacement for Peaches is yet to be found.

The irish beauty is set to hit sights in the Spring/Summer collection of ‘Adore Moi’, which has a luxury feeling from the lace and a beautiful French Style. The ‘Adore Moi’ is exclusive to Debenhams.

With Designers Such as Jean Paul Gautier and Versace using her to campaign; Karen Elson the fiery red head certainly made her impact on the fashion industry with her gorgeous images and criticisms of the business of fashion.

Elson has also caught our eyes with musical idol, Jack White her husband. We have most defiantly seen an opening to Karen’s musical side; she provided backing vocals to ‘Last Time I Saw Her’ by Robert Plant. She has also created a duet with Cat Power the pair sang ‘I Love You (Me Either)’.

However, Karen is not the only to try her luck at the music industry; Naomi Campbell released her album, Babywomen in the mid-nineties although Q magazine completely dismissed it.

Karen has released her single, ‘The Ghost Who Walks’ from her fourth coming album.

The Wolves football club are up against Stoke City today, but aside from the usual football warm-ups; the footballers took to the runways in an aim to raise money for Everyman Cancer Charity.
“It was a great night, the modelling took us all out of our comfort zone but I thought we did really well,” said Keogh, a footballer and attempted model. “It was really enjoyable and hopefully we raised lots of money. A few of the boys think they took to it naturally but they should just leave it to the professionals.”
The ten from the team were modelling the latest trends and designs from the Birmingham department store, Harvey Nichols.

With a hope to win against Stoke, they will successfully hold their Premier League status.

Prabuddha Dasgupta, a fashion photographer has commented about his country being colour biased. It appears as though India is being torn to pieces as more people are purchasing many products to help their skin complexion appear lighter. The obsession is known as, ‘Snow White Syndrome’.

“I’ve been battling this colour prejudice for a long time. As a brown-skinned nation, we’ve turned against each other. Beauty companies have always perpetuated this collective insecurity and there are impressionable young girls of 13 or 14 who are dark-skinned and think there is no life ahead of them. It’s appalling.”

Brand such as L’Oréal’s White Perfect and Hindustan Unilever’s Fair and Lovely seem to be increasing as more people are searching for the lighter look. However, fashion magazine Vogue (the Indian edition) is set to fight against the prejudice to darker skin tones.

The Vogue editorial has stated: “Every generation has its share of beauty myths. Perhaps it’s time to bust this one. Time to say that as a magazine, we love, and have always loved, the gorgeous colour of Indian skin … dark, dusky, bronze, golden - whatever you call it, we love it.”
The colour special is said to be named, “The dawn of dusk” and will be using British model Gia Johnson Singh, with four other models on the front cover; all with dark features.

Gia has reportedly suffered from racial prejudice in the country, she commented: “I heard someone talk about me on the phone saying ‘Oh, but she’s really dark’. It really got my back up. … I was shocked at the extent to which these creams are advertised by high-end brands. It’s really sad…”

Nirupama Singh, a fashion sociologist said, “Skin colour matters a lot for women in India. Fairness is a very valuable thing here, looked on as desirable. The fashion world can be a big agent for change in this area.”

The Miss Norfolk 2010 press launch party is being held on Wednesday 7 th April, starting at 7 PM going on until late at beugla bar in Norwich.

Entry is free and open to everyone that has an interest in the contest or modelling industry as a whole. 

Organisers are asking for donations for heart FMs have a heart appeal,  working along side the Make a Wish Foundation, proceeds go to help sick and terminally ill children and to make their last wishes come true. The miss Norfolk beauty pageant is working along side heart FM to help them raise as much money as possible for this fantastic charity.

Press will be there aswel as the heart FM team so therefore dress code is smart (dresses/skirts for females and jeans/shirt for males)

Excellent chance for networking as well as scouting for new talent. 

Beautiful women have battled it out to help those in the Army with the Honeys for Heroes campaign; the ladies have been described as modern – day Vera Lynn’s.

The idea itself came by chance when photographer and former soldier, Kevin Wyllie was shooting model, Cheryl McQueen. He commented, “I was shooting a local model, Cheryl McQueen, who is the winner of the Miss Model of Scotland 2009 title, who mentioned her brother was due to pass out in my old regiment, the Scots Guards, and we decided to do a pin-up shoot for the troops. These shots were then posted on Facebook and I started to get enquiries from other girls asking how they could get involved.”

Honeys for Heroes uses the beauty of the women to help raise funds for soldiers in battle zones all over the world; the members travel events and fundraisers nationally to help raise awareness.

“Over just a few short weeks there was a small group of girls who did some shoots with myself and fellow photographers Stevie Manson and Colin Allan, another ex-Scots Guard. The idea came about that we could organise a modelling competition to recruit some other models into the group as well as raise some cash for two charities which we feel quite strongly about – Help for Heroes and the Scots Guards Colonel’s Fund.”
The most recent event was just a few weeks ago: in a search to find three more honeys to join the fundraising group. The women were in combat on the catwalk, at Glasgow’s Retrospect bar. The event raised £665, with the cash also being shared with Help for Heroes and Scots Guards Colonel’s Fund.

“A few of the guys I served with are out there now. These boys out there mean a lot to me, so I’ll do anything I can to help.” Kevin had added. He and two other photographers; Stevie Manson and Colin Allan; are looking at helping Honeys for Heroes become a nationwide charity.

The women who had entered the competition, had been chosen by both former soldiers and serving soldiers, one whom had received help from Help for Heroes after being involved in a car bomb in Iraq.

Next on the list is a Honeys For Heroes website and hopefully they will be participating in National Armed Forces Day parades. The group are certainly anticipated to do well with glamour models such as Clair Meek, Kitty Lea and Katie Green looking to help.

It is a common ideology, that beauty pageants for children will lead them to significant insecurity and eating disorders in later life.
Andrew Fuller, a family psychologist believes that children being entered into pageants could cause them embarrassment and anxiety. He commented, “This is a good recipe for how to predispose your daughter into having an eating disorder … The risk is that they suddenly fear that their body shape is more important than their intellect.”
Another Psychologist, Dr Janet Hall believes that the pageants are causing the children to grow up quickly and they are believing that there image is more important than intelligence. “It makes a competition out of being more grown up than you are,” she said.
However, the organisers of Little Miss Bayside Pagaent believe that there competition is unlike American Pagaents, in which children are covered in fake tan and lashings of makeup.

The competition costs $100 to enter, with children up to the age of thirteen being judged on the way the photograph, model, their talents and ability to answer questions. With makeup not essential, organiser Laura Buik believes that is all about part-taking in the event.

“It's more about the kids getting up and having a go. They get a tiara . . . but the main prizes are the modelling contract and a three-day workshop.” Laura said.

The children pose in formal gowns, sport or swimwear and a casual outfit; “When it comes to the formal wear, we're looking more for like a party dress,” Buik explained.

Aside from all the posing, the children will have to show a talent such as, singing and dancing. Photo Categories include natural, glamour and a fun photo. If the child is above three they will also be judged on: confidence, sincerity and the way that they speak.

So, are child beauty pageants going top far? Or, are they an opportunity for children to show their talent and have fun at an event? Only time will tell as we watch these children grow and develop…

Heading in to get a weekend treat, alongside your fish and chips a gorgeous smile served by Hannah Pepperall. The 20 year old model works at Fishminister, Southville and is set to appear in the May edition of FHM.

Hannah has succeeded to triumph over 13,000 girls for the top 100 High Street Honeys and is now persuading those of Bristol to vote for her to win the competition. Beautiful with the natural look, is looking to get into the Catalogue and Editiorial side of modeling instead of the typical Glamour and Catwalk.

With previous work for Boots and La Senza there was encouragement from all around for her to enter the competition;  “ A lot of people told me to enter the competition, saying it would be a good way into modelling.I entered in July and had to go to London for a casting day and for photographs. And now I'm down to the final 100 and in the magazine.”

Posing in her bikini, Hannah says was completely relaxed during the casting; “I'm quite happy with the photograph in the magazine. But I'm quite a natural girl, and lots of the others have lots of make-up on, which didn't make me feel very confident. But I've had lots of support from people who think it's great. I really want to win.”

It has been a while since the beauty has appeared on the runway and suspicion occurred when the former supermodel was seen taking pictures of the catwalk, instead of walking them.

“I think my time has come to move on. It was not that I stopping enjoying modelling and doing fashion shows but I realised that I cannot do it forever. It is a very transient profession. One day it had to stop and I have decided to do something else now. I have started a new journey which is equally exciting and very creative. That is photography.”

Mallar believes that she is prepared to leave the modelling behind and move on to photography, “I was mentally prepared for the transition. I knew that I can’t do modelling forever. I have been doing it for a long time and I have loved being a part of the industry. It has given me a lot. I have made many friends but at the back of my mind I knew that one day had to come when I would have to take the decision to quit modelling.”

Sheetal continued, “So, when I decided to do something else I already had the power within me to accept quickly that I would not be modelling any more. I have happily made the transition. I always knew that I had to have something to fall back on when I’m not modelling and I loved photography since childhood. I have honed my talent always and this is what I want to do as my means of livelihood. Once in a while you might see me on the ramp but that’s basically because maybe my friend or someone close insists on having me.”

It is also reported that she won’t be going on to photograph fashion, but more photography projects. With her talent lying in fashion, it is interesting to see if she becomes as successful as a photographer.

“I would primarily do projects that are more conceptual. I love the classical photographers and their works. Though I would do fashion photography once in a while, it is not my main interest area. I would do projects that give my creativity the chance to excel,” Sheetal finished.

Amy Diamond the twenty two year model was the first of eleven contestants to go at the public vote; attempting to impress with Fergie’s Big Girls Don’t Cry, Amy was told she was more Legally Blonde than Dorothy.

With a sing off against fellow hopeful, Steph Fearon; the pair performed Whistle Down the Wind from musical Whistle Down the Wind to survive.

“This is an extraordinary competition. You two girls are the slight misfits in it, because we are seeking to fill the particular role of Dorothy…” Lord Lloyd-Webber had said, the judge was alone choosing one of the girls to save.

“In one sense you’re both not right for Dorothy… but tonight I have to save Steph. Amy, I genuinely think you’re fantastically talented… but you’re just not quite right for this role.” He continued.

Aspiring Dorothy, Amy had announced her previous entertainment experience; she had posed naked outside the houses of parliament and appeared in renowned lad mags.

“I’m really gutted, but I’ve had an amazing time.” Amy had said upon hearing the bad news. “I did what I came here to do. It shows you can be whoever you are – a model like me, you can be a mum, or work in a bank – you can fulfill your dreams, and I am going to keep pursuing my dreams.”

“Modelling was a great experience for me - it really opened my eyes to the entertainment industry. It enabled me to fund my singing and dancing lessons and go to auditions. I'm hoping it's not going to affect my changes at all.”

Judge Sheila Hancock believes that Amy is too sexy to play the role of Dorothy; “You’re a fantastic performer and very attractive. I worry that Dorothy is a girl who looks things straight in the eye, and never uses girly-ness.”

“She’s got to be very straight, but sometimes you find it difficult to strip that away. I would like to see you do something when you don’t fall back on that.” Sheila had told Amy on Saturday night.

John Partridge also appeared to agree, “I have to tell you Amy, I championed you - but I feel like you need to come out next time and be a bit less MTV and a bit more West End. More Dorothy, less Diamond.”

The 51 year old actress, Andie MacDowell has been the face of L’Oreal Paris for the last two decades; her modelling agency had confessed that a client believed that she was too fat at the peak of her career, when she was in her twenties.

At the time, MacDowell weighed 9st 6lbs a perfect weight for a 5”8 height;  “I told them not to book me. This is the best I can do.” Andie commented, “Shortly after, I got Calvin Klein commercials and a movie, so it didn’t stop me!”

The actress went on to land Vogue covers and model for designers such as Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent. Andie is now 9st 11lbs and a healthy, happy mum of three.

“I feel pretty good about it. Also, as you get older, your face starts to look drawn. That’s why I think I’m better off with those extra five pounds.”

The actress has admitted to being a chocolate fiend, “Well, it's not a guilty thing - I really do think that chocolate is good for you.” MacDowell had explained, “And it's better to eat that than not to have anything. That's when you end up eating too much - when you feel deprived.”

The 51 year old does admit she’s not as concerned as she used to be about her looks, “My perspective has changed so much. Sure, I want to be attractive, but it's not my top priority.” Instead, her focus is on being healthy for her children; “My mother died at 53 from a heart attack. I'm very close to that age. I want to be healthy for me, to be here for my kids and I want to enjoy my life.  It's almost a relief to be able to think about yourself like that.”

Beautiful young Irish model Aisling Quinn: daughter of Republic footballer, Niall and model Gillian is set to be a star on an international level.  

The sixteen year old has been signed up to Dublin’s 1 Option agency and is now being scouted by leading agencies in Paris and London whom also have her mother on their books.

It has been reported that the pair have been used in campaigns together, “We have had a fantastic response from international agencies in London and Paris in relation to Aisling.” Said the agencies spokeperson, Trish Fallon.

“Aisling has the perfect look for modelling and we have very big hopes for her once she is finished school. She really enjoys it and when the time comes myself and Gillian will help her decide if she wants to go on to work in either London or Paris, because there is definitely interest there.”

We will certainly be looking forward to seeing this star rise.

As one of the biggest weeks in Canadian Fashion kicks off, the week is set to be one with a difference as yet more larger models make an appearance.

The LG Fashion weeks is set to house the new gorgeous lines from the likes of Joe Mimran whom is using the latest ‘It Girl’, Crystal Renn along with stunning forty year old, Kirsten Owen.

Mimran the chairman of the Fashion Design Council of Canada; says he is always looking to do something different and this times its breaking aways from the skinny reign.

“We are always looking for something interesting to do in our shows,” Joe had commented. Renn the size twelve beauty is certainly a character of interest, with a lot of attention due to yet another weight debate.

“What's wrong with a voluptuous body type walking down the runway?” Joe Mimran questioned. “It's a great way to change things up. We're taking a chance like this and we can connect with our consumers.”

A recent study conducted by Dr. Marion Olmsted, has proved that women seeing thin models tend to have low confidence and mild depression after being exposed to the skinnies in magazines.

“They feel worse, in a sense. They feel less attractive, less competent, depressed,” Olmstead, a psychiatry professor at the University of Toronto had said.  “These images force them to focus on the gap between themselves and these models.”

Many believe that the use of larger models is just a gimmick, a trend; but whatever it is, it is certainly an improvement.

Kirsten Owen believes that it is changing and she is seeing an improvement with work, “I'm still getting a lot of work,” the 40 year old said. “I don't have a problem with being 40 and still being a model ... I appreciate it so much when designers want to use different models, not just the young.”

Owen was a leading a face during the 90’s  but believes that the most important thing is that her daughter understands that her mother is looking after her health.  “I have a 14-year-old daughter, and it's very important that she knows that although I'm a model, I still eat a lot, I'm really healthy,” said Owen. “The important thing is that people see the clothes and be inspired to wear them.”

The winner of the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund has been announced, the 30 year old, Erdem Moralioglu; successfully won the prestigious prize.

Gaining £200,000, extremely high – profile mentors and a bespoke mentoring programme; the London based designer is going to have lots of people assisting him to help him achieve all his goals this year, helping him develop a creative business and global fashion brand.

The BFC’s 25th Anniversary sought the ‘legacy programme’ enhancing the recognition of London’s rising celebrities and hopefuls, the award was apart of the programme intending to help business development.
 
Moralioglu had attended fashion school in Canada and the UK, later achieving a master’s degree and moving to New York and working under Diane von Furstenberg. Her returned to London and launched his own label in 2005; becoming favorites of Sarah Brown, Michelle Obama and Kiera Knightly.

The bold and unique colour combinations have become regulars on the red carpet, with customers like Sienna Miller, Kirsten Dunst and Claudia Schiffer; it is no surprise that his curvaceous and gorgeously tailored designs have won him so many awards.

2007 saw him the Swarovski British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award; going on to achieve BFC’s Fashion Forward award in 2008, later followed by "Fashion Future Award" at the Elle Style awards in London, 2009.

The British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund had shortlisted eight outstanding designers and ended it with Erdem; the judges consisted of many industry experts including Alexandra Shulman, the British editor of Vogue.

“He makes beautiful clothes that already have a recognisable stamp that is his alone,” Alexandra Shulman said about Erdem.
Angel Jackson, Christopher Kane, Clements Ribeiro, E. Tautz, Marios Schwab, Nicholas Kirkwood and Richard Nicoll; the other seven nominees are also able to gain support from those within the mentoring panel.

Harold Tillman, BFC Chairman had stated, “Erdem has excellent design credentials, an impressive business plan and creates beautiful collections season after season. I am proud to say that the British Fashion Council’s Vogue Designer Fashion Fund will play a key role in developing Erdem’s already prominent designer business both here in the UK and abroad.”

Moralioglu’s designs are now sold in over fifty renowned department stores all over the world.

“I am thrilled to be the winner of the BFC Vogue Fashion Fund. It is an honour,” Erdem had said. “The prize will help us to take our business to the next level. It is so integral for us to be showing in London and the support of the BFC and Vogue will allow us to grow our business internationally”

The gorgeous 60’s pin up told Oprah Winfrey about her struggle when she first arrived in the prestigious Hollywood as agencies didn’t find her body attractive.

 “When I tried to do some modelling after I first came to LA - just to get a job - they hated my body. Everything was wrong. I had no idea that was the path I was going to be going in when I started my career, because I wanted to be an actress,” Raquel Welch had said.

The gorgeous star became an icon as she appeared in an animal print bikini for One Million Years B.C movie poster.

The celebrity explains it takes her hours until she is happy with the way she looks, “I'll have my mornings when I really like myself, but 90% of the time it's, 'Oh my God'. One of the reasons I look so good is that it takes me about three hours to get ready,” she concluded.

It was reported that Peaches Geldof had been dismissed from the Miss Ultimo campaign due to alleged drug use; rumours that Georgia Jagger was to be taking her place however it has been confirmed that Georgia will not be modelling for Miss Ultimo.

“As model of the year, Georgia's name will inevitably be linked with new campaigns, but there is no truth in the speculation that she will be working for Ultimo,” her agent, Tori Edwards of Tess management had said.

“Georgia has had an incredibly busy six months: shooting her first Vogue cover, modelling for Versace and Hudson, receiving the British Fashion Award and becoming the new face of Rimmel. She has a few high profile campaigns in the pipeline, but Ultimo isn't one of them.”

So one thing is for certain, Georgia will not be sporting Ultimo.

With naked models and actresses without makeup appearing on the leading magazine cover; Elle has now used the latest debate, Plus Size Models as their shocking front enticing thousands in.

Tara Lynn appears on the cover of French Elle magazine, due to hit the stands within the next week. Tara is supported by the intriguing line, ‘adorable belly fat’; leading to the thirty two page special-edition of the magazine.

Mark Fast had his plus size models strut down the runway, Debenhams used size sixteen mannequins and Bravissimo used their customers to campaign; Vogue released an online section, ‘Vogue Curvy’ and Elle is set to challenge the skinny trend.

“It's almost unbelievable to see such a huge magazine cover a real plus-size woman. Along with Vogue dedicating a section to curvy women, it's the most shaking news I've seen,” Sakina the Parisian fashion writer had blogged.

“Fashion has created a gap between itself and real women. From skinny, to curvy, to fat, the population is made of very different bodies and the contrast between the women represented in fashion or advertising has been so important that most women don't feel good about themselves. I, too, have had body issues: I tried to fight what I genetically am because I always thought that being beautiful could never mean being curvy.” She had continued.

However it appears as though not all share the same view, an unnamed fashion insider believes that the Elle magazine is just doing the edition in response to criticism.  The insider who believes, ‘clothes don’t look as good on bigger people’ had said, “It's a gimmick. Having one edition that you fill with big girls is like world women's day: one day a year is reserved for them and the rest of the time you go back to normal.”

It is reported that the Australian designer Rosemary Masic, believes that anything over a size fourteen is unhealthy and promoting larger designs in promoting bad health. Karl Lagerfeld is another that allegedly disagrees with the plus size models debate. “Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly,” Karl had commented.

Michael Kors has taken a completely different attitude to others believing that the skinnies are like an army of children, he had commented, “The fashion industry is starting to address real women again, the emphasis in fashion is shifting toward an emphasis on real women who are women, not girls.”

It will be interesting to see if more magazines and designers follow in suit to use a range of models; is the recent improvement with size just a gimmick or will it last?

“Having had a history of breast cancer within my family, I know all too well the devastating effects of the disease,” explained Sienna Miller behind the scenes of the photo shoot.

Kylie Minogue and Claudia Schiffer joined Miller in the campaign for the charity; the beauties were wrapped up in a sheet with the recognizable logo and were photographed by the famous, Mario Testino.

“For this reason I am supporting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and am proud to be one of the faces of this year’s campaign. Shooting the campaign was so much fun. Working with Mario is always such a joy, no-one is better at doing what he does, and doing it for such a good cause made it even better.”

Since its launch in 1996, the charity has raised over 10.5 million, with support from retailers such as Topshop, Warehouse, Marks & Spencer’s and River Island.

At just fifthteen years old, who would know that Angelina’s renowned pout would ever make it so far! Posing for photographer, Harry Langdon; Jolie’s images from her first shoot are set to be auctioned off on Friday in California.

Jolie was dressed in a leopard print dress and cute denim shorts teamed with a crop top; with the modelling career fully behind her, Angelina went on to become the face of fashion label, St John and receive no end of praise for her red carpet look.

With other celebrities such as Halle Berry, Kirsten Dunst, Sarah Jessica Parker, Drew Barrymore and Terri Hatcher also to be sold, this auction will not be one to miss. Prints from Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, Man Ray and Richard Avedon also to be appearing.

Cameron hoped that the photos wouldn’t come to light, but his wish was not granted as Samantha’s old flirty modelling photos appear in ‘The Mail On Sunday.’

“She did these pictures a long time ago in connection with her business, I think back in 1996 or 1997,” Cameron said as ten year old photos appear. The couple was shocked when they received the paper; the images were a reported favor for a friend whom designed clothes.

“But we knew one day someone might remember them. We were hoping they would never appear, but they have. These things happen.”

Richie Sambora’s daughter Ava, took part in her first catwalk at only twelve years old; with the White Trash Beautiful show opening Los Angeles Fashion Week.

The range was a collaboration of the star and Nikki Lund, “She’s a diva. She’s amazing. And Richie is so excited.” Ava walked to the famous, ‘Living on a Prayer’.

Her mother, actress Heather Locklear took to the front of the show; with the closest seats possible!

In Ad Campaign for Thomas Wylde, 22 year old model poses in panties and a necklace; the promotion will certainly be proof that sex sells.

Rosie Huntington-White has recently split from Olivier Martinez, 44; the pair had a brief relationship but it seemed to be to much as they were both busy with work; the pair met at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

It isn’t her first nude campaign, fashion house Aubin and Wills and Victoria's Secret have both seen her pose nude.

Footballer Frank Lampard’s, Spanish Ex admits to finding it difficult to adjust since there split; Elen Rivas has since become the face of Diamond Boutique and uses her curvaceous figure to flaunt there beautiful underwear range.

The range was designed by The Apprentice Star, Michelle Mone whom also created the Ultimo range.

Rivas has reported cut down on the amount of champagne she drinks and is now shopping at high street store, Primark. Lampard was linked to other women, resulting in the end of his and Elen’s 7 year relationship.

Elen is now living with her two children, in a £2.85 million six bedroom home; the footballer is still paying child maintenance and is reportedly dating, The One Show Host, Christine Bleakley.

23 year old, Latishia Brazier was fearful of being alone in the busy city at night, running to catch the bus the promotional model was dragged for 500yards underneath a double decker bus. She was returning home from a night out and is now suffering from punctured lungs, broken ribs and a broken neck.

Spokesperson from the transport operator has said, “Initial reports suggest an individual tried to board the bus as it pulled away from traffic signals at the junction of Haymarket and Pall Mall.”

The bus driver has been suspended pending further police investigation.

“CCTV footage from the bus has been made available to the police to assist with their inquiries…The driver is suspended pending further investigations.” The Spokesperson continued.

Slim Kelly Osbourne now at size 8, has recently been flaunting her delicious figure at many fashion shows in the last week. The host of Project Catwalk, appeared as the pin-up for Betsey Johnsons Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.

The 25 year old strutted down the catwalk in a variety of stunning ensembles; with white skirts and ballgowns the Wild West themed show certainly appealed to the audience at Bryant Park.

The show certainly had a cheeky side as Osbourne emerged  wearing a faux moustache, her pet Pomeranian Sid joined her on the catwalk; bewildered by the flashing lights and attention. Osbourne was also outing with rollers in her hair, enthusing the audience.

To continue with the humour, Kelly sent Johnson a special thank you for asking her to participate in the show; a pink singing monkey telegram showed the designer Kelly’s appreciation.

Kelly clearly enjoyed the show with tweets, “Sid walked the runway with me for my second look. It was so cool, I even got to wear a moustache.”

Johnson ecstatic by the turn out to her show, appeared on the catwalk with a moustache and cart wheeling down the runway bringing joy to the crowd; undoubtedly a show to remember.

Kelly has also recently attending show for clothing brand, Alice + Olivia. She wore a short black dress, monochrome accessories and an Alice + Olivia chequered coat give to her to keep her warm in the icy cold temperatures. Posing in the dress, Kelly showed off her angel wings tattoo on her shoulder blades.

Kelly went on to party with friends after the show, however the night took a turn for the worst as Kelly and friend Brooke Dulien spent the night in with a doctor blooded and bruised.

“I woke up covered in blood because a glass door exploded on my friend of the bathroom of the boom boom room last night!” Kelly had blogged. “We were with a dr until 4am in the morning getting her looked at and bandaged up it was crazy.”

The pair both seem to be recovering okay, with details on the night still to come.

Kelly has also recently taken part Fashion For Relief Haiti NYC 2010 which was organized by Naomi Campbell.

After XFactor’s Lucie Jones being signed to Select Model Management; it appears as though Winner Joe McElderry, thought he’d follow suit. The singer has been signed to Next Model Management.

Designer Christopher Kane, spotted Joe at London Fashion Week and quickly got him into a shoot: “I really enjoyed the shoot… It'll be really exciting to continue doing this alongside my music.”

Aside from the size and weight debates which are going on globally from fashion designers to teenagers, the next discussion is age restriction.

“I am running out of girls to cast my shows with,” said casting agent James Scully. “I would like to see a minimum age of 18. I can't tell a girl who never even kissed a boy to go out on the runway and be sexy.”

These young women, who struggle to appear sexy, seem to be the only models that are able to fit into casting sample sizes without intensive exercise and lack of sufficient nutritious foods.  

Doutzen Kroes has said, “I was 18 when I started. I probably fit a sample size once when I was 11 or 12. Now I am 25. I am always told I should lose weight.” The model has recently joined Victoria’s Secret flaunting curves and beauty.

With under 18s being the only models easily fitting into sample sizes, is it moral to allow these young people to embrace the industry at such a young age?

It is a popular misconception that all models are: stupid, thin, attention grabbing and all they care about is the partying; but with a deep look into the lives of models not only is it a talent, but hard work also.

Eunice Olumide whom grew up in Edinburgh, is a twenty two year old model and signed to Glasgow’s The Look Agency.

She has recently modelled at The Button Club’s Lingerie Collective, with six designers exposing there latest creations and six shows one every hour on the hour. Eunice appeared in five of these shows, showing her signature pose; her left leg wraps around the right, resting her foot against her calf and with her right hand on her hip; she tugs her shirt with the left. Olumide not only looks stunningly beautiful, but shows that she has put effort into her pose.

Eunice started modelling at 16 years old, at 5ft 9in she is one of the only black models currently working in Scotland. “Certain people are built in a certain way. Usually when you go to an agent, they take you on how you look. They could change you, they could tell you to lose weight, but usually they won't; they'll just wait for someone with the right look. Because it's easier. Because some people are just built that way, they are a size zero. They don't look underweight, because that's the way they are. The problem is when models try to change themselves, because how do you keep that up?” Said the natural size eight model.

With the model working until the early hours of the morning in torturously high heels; she explains how to walk well in shoes that are not always the right size. “If you've got good shoes, you're rocking. The most important thing is if you make a mistake look like you meant it. The walk just comes with experience. Some people are naturally good, but hardly anyone. And poses are not easy. It's like a Pilates workout, because you're holding these mad poses for so long. Modelling is like acting or music. On the outside it all looks easy, but it takes a lot to make it to the top.”

During the backstage of the shoots; various models are getting changed, being provided with lashings of makeup and hair products or just grabbing lunch. But privacy is never their, with photographers getting every last move. With previous experience, supermodel Erin O’Conner set up the Model Sanctuary where models can rest chat and relax in a private place.

Eunice grew up in Scotland attending all white primary schools, and all white secondary schools with  magazines for comfort, she explains, "Growing up in Edinburgh, I used to think I was ugly, because I was black…I was the first black person in my primary school, my high school, all by myself all the time. I thought I was ugly because of the colour of my skin and because my hair was curly, and I had no one to identify with, except Naomi Campbell and Lauryn Hill.”

"And it was because I was looking at these magazines and there's no-one who looks like me. I could look at every single magazine that's published in Scotland and I can guarantee there won't be one black model in there. That's not right."

The model has also recently taken part in the one woman show for, JJ Noki originally set for outside yet the British weather has decided to change this; moving the set. Despite the early confusion, Olumide quickly adapts and provides yet another stunning campaign.

Dutch Supermodel Lara Stone, recently engaged to Little Britain star David Walliams explains her aggravation by female photographers.

“Personally, I don't like working with female photographers because they seem to never be able to make up their minds about what they want to do….So many times it's like, ‘Oh, let's try this’ and ‘Let's try that’ and ‘Let's do this’ and ‘Let's do that.’ It's like, ‘For f**k's sake, woman!’”

Lara Stone earlier on this month was ranked first in Model.com’s Top 50 Models; the blonde beauty is often referred to being curvy although she is at a size eight.

Stone believes, “Every photographer is completely different; the fact that they are so different is what makes it fun. You don't want to get bored.”

It seems as though the fashion industry is finally going through with some much needed changes, with encouragement for plus size models, bans on under 18s, ban on upfront fees and now our first disabled model to take part in a campaign.

Leading department store, Debenhams became the first retailer to feature a wheelchair bound model on Saturday; Shannon Murray the beautiful model has been used to promote the collaboration between Ben De Lisi and High Street Label, Principles.

Shannon has been modelling for fourteen years but never experience anything like this, she has blogged, “I hope the images challenge a few misconceptions about disability; it’s been a long time coming.”

The campaign has used a variety of different models with different shapes and sizes, representing the diversity in the new range of garments. The campaign is also teamed with fashion guru, Gok Wan as he hopes to encourage disabled women to flaunt their beautiful bodies.
Gok has stated, “Debenhams is pushing the boundaries by producing the first ever disabled fashion campaign . . . I hope that one day disabilities will be recognised by every chain in the high street.”

The department store is also set to use size 16 mannequins in shop windows, at last the industry is taking these small steps to improve social inclusion. We are looking forward to seeing more designers and retailers following in the same direction.

Recently attended Elle Style Awards, Claudia had said, “No I don't think so, because I think models have always been thin, ever since I can look back anyway - I've never... no I don't think there has ever a moment where it's been any different.”

With many discussions currently debating size zero models and there health, supermodel Schiffer completely discards the thought of ban; “The most important thing is that they are healthy. There will always be an exception somewhere, within any profession, whether it's acting or singing. There will always be that one person that is unhealthy and doesn't eat anything and God knows what else they do.”

“I mean, you should be able to spot that, if you are a company or a designer you should be able to say this one particular person is not healthy and maybe we shouldn't use her...But in general I think, you can be thin and be healthy, you can be bigger and be healthy as well, you know. It just depends.”

“I never planned on becoming a model when I was younger,” Kayleigh Jackson a beginning model had said. “I am very lucky to be able to work in this industry.”

The Exmouth Model took another step forward in her career as she modeled for London’s Haiti earthquake appeal; the show was broadcast on TV and Sex and The City Star, Kim Kattrall attended.

“I'm hoping for a long and successful career. It's all going well so far.”

The 22 Year old, works as a DJ in her spare time and has so far been photographed by OK magazines photographer and had experience in a variety of different luxurious locations.

Brushing shoulders with the likes of Katie Price and Caprice, her mum believes there’s no stopping the young model; “Once she was bitten by the modeling bug, having her hair and make up done, there was no turning back.”

“I am really proud of her. I never thought she would end up doing this kind of thing…
As a youngster, she was the biggest tom boy you would ever meet in your entire life. She used to run around with baggy trousers and T-shirts.”

Kayleigh is proud to have worked the Haiti fashion show and feels like her career keeps rising, she explains about the drama behind the scenes: “I was in every single show wearing all the designers' lines. By the time I had finished, given I was up since 3am that day, I was really tired.”

With Fashion Week coming to a close, it appears this week has certainly been one for change and examples as: Mark Fast sends plus size models down the catwalk, Coco Rocha outs all with the industry and weight whilst, Debenhams have used disabled models.

UK based lingerie company, specializing in beautiful underwear for women with a larger breast size launches their new campaign. Bravissimo contacted 600 of there customers to cast women for there new TV advert, supporting real women.

The hot competition was narrowed down to five stunning women, Patricia Arteaga, Leela Tikadar, Riann Quinn, Katie Hardy and Jess Edwards. “Being one of the lucky five is the best thing that has ever happened to me.” 22 Riann from Leighton Buzzard had said. All the women used have absolutely no prior modeling experience and are flaunting there beautiful natural curves.

Bravissimo fitted the women of ITV’s dancing on ice with sports bras and are now promoting real women with gorgeous natural frames; helping to improve self confidence of women nationally.

Spokesperson, Anna Prince has commented; “The Bravissimo campaign promotes healthy body image by showing that real women can look fantastic too. Our customers have told us that they would prefer to see images of real women than of models. The girls we have chosen are beautiful yet attainable.”

With national suppliers of support and beauty for women backing the ‘real women’ campaign; it shouldn’t be long till many more start to follow. At last the suppliers are helping to set the ball rolling to improve body confidence and image.

Colombian Beauty appears to be behind mastermind drug group, smuggling millions of pounds worth of cocaine from Argentina to Europe.

Angie Sanselmente Valencia, 30 was reported dating a Mexican drug lord known as ‘The Monster’ but split from him to form her own group of smugglers. Valencia is reported to describe these women as 'unsuspicious, beautiful angels', they are also said to be 'nice, but not flashy'.

The ‘Queen of Coffee’ 2000 left modelling and moved to Argentina, Angie appears to have established her own network and a new form of earning a significant wage; her smugglers are said to earn over £3000 per trip, it is reported that a smuggler boarded a plane every twenty four hours.

Unfortunate for the model, one of her ‘angels’ were found at Argentina's Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires with 55kg of Cocaine; the 21 year old told the police that she thought no one would stop her at the airport; within twelve hours of the lady speaking up, three further arrests were made.

Police have been investigating the groups link with airport workers, in the mean time the supermodel checked out of a four star hotel in Buenos Aires; Investigators have attempted to find the model from traces of her dog, however they were lead to an abandoned warehouse.

The Smuggling Supermodel is still yet too be found, with a International Warrant for Arrest lying on her shoulders.

With constant text messages and proposals model, Sophie Anderson told the court that she was left hysterical by stalker, Paul Davies, 58.

She was first contacted by the man, as her proposed to write a biography Sophie told him to approach her management team. Yet the man continued to text and call her, even though she had told him to stop.

“Over the course of the next few months, it escalated to the point I was having calls from 7:30am up to 1am.” Sophie had told the court, she had also received 88 text messages asking her to marry him.

Davies denies harassment on grounds of insanity; the trial continues.

Canadian designer Mark Fast had a show that certainly won’t be forgotten among those in the industry; those who attended London Fashion Week will defiantly agree that the show brings joy to all real women.

Mark Fast used size 14-16 women alongside average catwalk model, although the plus size models were evidently larger than the other models; they are a healthy weight for their height.

With last years show using larger models causing a shake up, (Stylist and Creative Director walked out) this years was much anticipated; gladly the show ran smoothly without any disruptions. Fast has most defiantly proved that his designs look spectacular on all body shapes.

Mark Fast’s show had models supplied by 12+UK models agency, the line up included the renowned Crystal Renn founded Sarah Watkinson has stated that no other designer has yet used models from her agency.

The Playboy model, Louise Glover smashed Maxine Hardcastle’s head up against a toilet rim ten times; accusing the women of flirting with her husband. The model has been named “vicious and motivated by irrational jealousy”.

Maxine, a daughter of 80’s popstar has been reported having scared arms and hair loss due to the attack in nightclub toilet.

“You've shown a complete absence of remorse.” Judge Charles Kent gave the model a suspended term; although he had heard that she wouldn’t benefit from any form of anger management.

Louise had several warnings whilst in court for shouting and has now lost several modelling deals; the model has also been given 180 hours community service due to a prior conviction for attacking a police officer.

Coco Rocha the lasted victim of being called too fat, the size four beautiful model is a size and weight that many struggle to achieve and maintain; yet she is still being refused work because she is too big.

In the last week, the 21 year old has modelled for Diane von Furstenberg and walked for Zac Posen, but due to her rare indulgence of a hamburger; the hierarchy of the industry are boycotting her.

Gemma Ward, an Australian model retired from the business last year and has recently gained attention because her figure is no longer following the waif trend; blogger’s believe that she should try plus sized modelling.

With women having thighs the size of ankles, it is certainly not a trend people should be wanting to follow after the tragedies of many models including Ana Carolina Reston.

With orders being thrown at models to lose weight, their has been a recent discussion to raise the sample size which currently stands at a size zero; to a size four. The current requirements for a runway model is skin and bones; no wonder the likes of Crystal Renn chose health over high fashion.

Doutzen Kroes, recently joined Victoria Secret as a sexy lady with curves as she didn’t fit into the ‘sample size’. “I eat and I am happy,” she commented. “I want a healthy lifestyle, and I hope other models can have choices like that.”
Coco Rocha has certainly given the industry the middle finger by saying, “It took a while to grow the confidence to say, ‘This is who I am, take it or leave it.’”  Sadly, the industry has left it.
Two years ago Coco admitted that someone had told her to lose weight, taking diuretic pills on an empty stomach causing her to become ill.
The industry is slowly but surely improving, with more models saying no to undernourishment and bones; it won’t be too long until the industry is forced to improve the health conditions of their models.

Crystal Renn; universally known for her modelling work, the model who once suffered from anorexia is now an idol for thousands of women in her new size 16 skin. Renn has accomplished the unthinkable in the world of fashion; Vogue, catwalks, commercial adverts, the face of national high street chains and a book, all as a plus sized model.

In a career in which anything over a size 8 struggles to gain high fashion work, Crystal proves to be an icon; showing real women that beauty isn’t always in a leggy, thin shape. Over the last fifthteen years, size, weight and the modelling industry have come hand in hand, with the craze being malnutrition.

However, in the last two to three years more is being done to fight the issue of under nourishment and to allow models to be healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. Renn, who is due to model for Mark Fast, the designer who is renowned for supporting plus sized models; believes that size should not be an issue with modelling.

“My size was irrelevant. Throw size away. I am capable of the things that were promised to me when I was 14.”  At fourteen, Crystal was discovered in Mississippi and told she could be one of the next supermodels; with the price of slimming her waist down to a 34 inch size. Renn followed the request, losing 9 inches, 42% of her body weight and five stone.

With the intent of keeping healthy, Renn’s health and weight quickly deteriorated with the hope of being a super size zero model; “I thought, 'I'll eat healthy and I'll just be a size zero like models,’…”

Hungry which was published in September, provides a unique insight to her conflict with weight and health as she devoured into the high fashion industry. “People need to hear this story because it's their story,” Crystal believes. “Women deal with this all the time and I think most of them can relate to this story in some way.”

 “ … I dropped about 35lb in three months and I realized it was not going to be so easy. I had some weight to go. So that's when things took a more extreme turn. That's when the calories came down and the exercise went up and the absolute obsession took hold – of all parts of my life.”

With plus – sized models usually meaning catalogue, Renn clearly represents high fashion as she supports a Balenciaga handbag and shows that you don’t have to be weightless to walk and walk well in shockingly beautiful heels.

“…I'm fighting for a cause: women hate themselves. That is so sad. There are so many people out there who could change the world, but they're consumed with self-hatred."

Renn a profound young lady grew up with her grandmother and believed herself to be a ‘Goth girl’ and a ‘weird freak’; a cheerleader with an underlying interest in poetry and Shakespeare as she was a teenager.

At a tiny size eight, Renn was refused from a shoot for being too big; she then decided to become a plus sized model. “I went down to 6st and then luckily – although at the time I didn't think I was very lucky – my body rebelled. I would be eating only vegetables and exercising up to eight hours a day, but my body went up to a size six (UK10) and my agency was all over me about it.”
 
Crystal was surviving on chewing gum and training at two different gyms; her body quickly became frail and withered. “I was dying. I didn't want to die.” The icon changed agencies and went up to a size twenty; she is now comfortable at healthy size 16 and enjoying a balanced diet of eggs, brown rice and salad.

Crystal doesn’t blame the agencies or the industry for her rapid weight loss, she holds herself responsible for the damage caused to her body; she thanks the industry for the experience it gave her and now she is even happier working her dream job with a lifestyle that suits her. “…I do not blame the fashion industry for my eating disorder, it was my decision. The fashion industry actually offered me some of the greatest opportunities of my entire life.”

“I model for women,” Renn believes.  “The clothes, the fantasy, it's for them to feel inspired. I discover something about myself after every shoot. Some might laugh, 'Oh, a model and her craft,' but you know what? Get in front of a camera and find enough confidence to perform: it's not easy…. I love what I do.”

Alongside with the career, criticism and scrutiny follow: Crystal has received the ‘your too fat’ and ‘look how skinny she is’ and she admits that hearing these things hurt; but also wants people to realize that we are all only human. Renn believes that people are just, “hungry to see something new” but need something that they can empathize with; but she isn’t going to change her weight to appease those around her.

“I don't believe that all models should be size 16s,” Crystal explained. “That's discrimination the other way. And I don't want things to change overnight – that would be a trend. I do however believe we should have a variety of women. I'd like to see a similar thing to the Eighties: real women, personalities, beautiful!”

“Women have come so far,” she continued. “We've come oh-so-far, but not as far as we could yet go, because our vanity worries take up most of our time mentally and it's holding us back. If we throw away the idea of obsessing about calories, imagine how much your mind is freed up. I certainly found that to be the case.”

Luckily for the model, it appears as though more and more people within the industry are helping to make a more diverse range of models in catwalks; with untouched images appearing on the likes of Glamour; German magazines pledging to shoot with real women and Vogue editors lettering designers asking for samples to be made bigger: it’s far off from completion but as more people get involved the easier it is for us to see more figures to idol.

“Designers sending one type of girl down the runway is saying, ‘This is the only thing that can be beautiful,’… ‘And you, you fat consumer, will never be beautiful, no matter what you do. And you will also not be able to wear my dress.’”

So, who is to blame for the cult of skinnies? Designers, Models, Edititors, or ourselves for letting weight, size issues and vanity come so far?  Regardless of how it started, sure enough the issue should be our health; with beauty at the price of damaging the body…

Lingerie model and designer appears to be at a loss after selling her Johannesburg home, Caprice had spent £400,000 on renovating her £300,000 home.

Caprice whom had only spent roughly a month in her home said she was scared to live their, “People in the neighbourhood told me about being robbed at gunpoint,” she had said. “I was scared and couldn’t sleep. I installed four alarms and had a security guy, but I was still scared. After a month I moved out of the house and stayed in a hotel.”
The four bedroom house was once valued at over £1.2 million; but is now back on the market for only £405,000 just a fraction above the original price she’d bought it for. Last year the model had refused similar offers as she felt they were too low; however now she is facing reality and moving on.

In Burberry heels, Agyness Deyn took a fall at the New York Fundraiser for Haiti as she took a stride down the catwalk. With a quick recovery, the model jumped back up continued down the runway to welcome yet another trip.

A giggly and smiling Agyness promptly took her heels off and added a cheeky twist to the fundraising catwalk. A later tweet informed us that her knees were sore.

Alexander McQueen; a creative guru, a fashion genius and stylist to the stars has tragically passed away in a sudden death. Alexander whom had created outstanding clothes filled with emotion was found hanging in his home in London; only a week after the death of his mother.

With supermodels and celebrities such as Kate Moss and Lady Gaga intently mourning his death; tributes to the star of the fashion world are held all over.

Naomi Campbell paid her tributes at New York’s Fashion Week as supermodels huddled together wearing S/S 2010 Alexander McQueen. The signature skull and lips scarves have been worn in memory by hundreds.

Gaga a regular supporter of McQueen’s outrageous designs admits that she is still in shock; the singer had posted a picture of her and him on her twitter page and is said to be performing a special tribute at the BRITS.

Betsey Johnson; held a long live McQueen sign at the end of the viewing of her Fall Collection 2010.

McQueen had based his collections on Hitchcock, Marie Antoinette and Lord of the Flies; his shows will remain in fashion history as Alexander has never failed to fill us with emotion.

Outfits were always beautifully tailored; that have thrilled and shocked us among the years. McQueen was always one to stand out; supporting Kate Moss after Scandals by wearing a T-shirt saying “We Love you Kate” as he bowed to end one of his shows.

Alexander has kept us on the edge of our seats, wondering what will come next; we’ve heard the click-clack of heals; seen the model surrounded by wolves and provided us with an intimate look at vanity.

McQueen will never be forgotten; as this week leads on for more tributes…

“My friends are always really surprised when they see me strutting around in high heels, because normally I’ll be riding horses or mucking out the stables and look as if I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.”

25 year old, Janine Allen Robertson successfully won her place in Miss Universe 2010; the pageant will be taking place on May 2nd at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.

“I’m really happy to have made it through to the final, because Miss Universe is one of the grand slam events in beauty pageants.” Robertson is a horse riding instructor whom is also studying accountancy in the hope to own her own business.

“I study accounting, because it will be really helpful with starting a business.” Janine hopes to own a beauty pageant company. “I think it’s very easy to look at pageants from the outside and be critical…I don’t agree with the ones with little kids wearing make-up to the eyeballs. But for older people it’s good, because you get experiences you wouldn’t have otherwise.”

The model who was once to shy to speak in front of a school class, is now hoping to raise funding the Joshua Foundation; the charity helps children with terminal cancer and gives them wonderful life experiences.

“I was quite shy growing up but competing around the world in pageants has given me a lot of confidence…At school, I wouldn’t even read aloud in front of the class but now I’ve addressed rooms full of hundreds of people.”

The 5”8 aspirer will be representing Great Britain in the Pageant; we wish her all the luck.

First posing for university students eight years ago, Marley Rae Mcduff founded the reDEFINEartsconnective now having 286 members fighting against the stigma that follows Nude art models.

Nude Art has been tarnished with the words ‘No Better than Pornography’, the models have been told that what they do is, ‘not real work’ and been asked for ‘extras’. They have now joined together and formed a union to better the industry and prove people wrong.

“I want people to have a better understanding about what it is that a fine art model does,” Marley Rae said. “It's serious. It's work. It's hard work for many people. And it's not something to be ashamed of.”

The group was first extremely slow, but now many people are getting membership and supporting the models; Models claim that artistic modeling has been extremely rewarding and helped them gain confidence.

“Artistic modeling is not sexual in nature,” said Muriel Torchia; whom entered nude modeling after finding reDEFINE listed under job opportunities.  “There is a difference between nudity and sexuality. If this was Europe, or South America, I don't think there'd be the same derogatory idea that comes with it. Here, people are like 'Oh my goodness, you pose nude? What do people think of this?'”

“I would like to see someone else actively stand or lie in the same position for even 15 minutes without moving or appearing different,” Muriel joked. “It's not always an easy job to do.”

The models can earn between £20 and £60 an hour; their nude posing can lead to shockingly amazing art pieces and help them gain independent attributes.

The sixteen year old elegant brunette is ready for the catwalk; but only a few years earlier Rosie Gilmour was frightened to walk alone up the stairs due to her epilepsy. Battling with the frightful condition since she was nine years old; the schoolgirl has suffered up to thirty seizures a day.

“When I was about 14 I feared going anywhere without a friend or my family because the seizures were so frequent.” Said the model from Perthshire. “I wouldn't walk a flight of steps at home without my brother or sister behind me because I've had seizures and have fallen down the stairs.”

“I was having around 30 a day. It totally took over my life and I had to rely on people so much just to get about … At that point I'd never have thought I'd now be doing modelling by myself…It has made me feel more independent - even though my seizures haven't stopped.”

Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK directly; this means that there are 456,000 at least with Epilepsy in Britain.

“I've even had them on photoshoots… The first time I had two, but the next was much worse and I had about ten over a three-hour session… I still managed to complete the pictures though.”

Rosie has produced stunning shots and certainly looks the part of the next supermodel.

“The last bad cluster of seizures I had was on Bonfire Night last year. I had four back to back and ended up in hospital overnight…My first one was in Primary Five. I've had ECG brain scans but they have never really found a reason or what triggers them off…They said it could be set off by stress. But then I can have them when I'm totally calm too….Most are very short - around 10 seconds long. But as I've got older they've got longer - around three to five minutes.”

Many people will suffer from a seizure at one point in there life; it is a sudden change in a persons awareness, behavior or what they are doing. Not all seizures are epileptic.

“One time I had a really bad seizure and a nurse told my friends to leave me alone. They insisted on putting me into the recovery position…It was just as well they did because I was sick, so I'd have choked. That's the problem with epilepsy - not a lot of people know what to do when they see someone have a seizure.”

Rosie has been hospitalized because of fits of seizures.

Rosie was spotted by current Miss Scotland; Katharine Brown. The young model is said to have gorgeous skin, that high fashion look and a beauty face. It is supported that the model will go far.

The sixteen year old is determined to continue into her career, despite her epilepsy.

Nick-named, ‘The Body’; 45 year old supermodel Elle Macpherson is set to replace Lisa Snowdon in Britain’s Next Top Model. Elle has previously had her lingerie line featured in the show but is now excited to work as a judge for the 25 models battling it out for a modelling contract.

“I am really enthusiastic and motivated to work with the team of Britain's Next Top Model…We are looking forward to finding the face that can represent the next generation.”

They used to be the area that the industry missed; too large for the catwalk, yet to skinny for a catalogue. A sudden surge of want for ‘normal sized’ models; designers, editors and retailers scream out for more curve and less bones.

12+UK Model Agency must be seeing a huge increase on booking of their models; it appears that more size 12 models are appearing in campaigns and on magazine covers. The industry famous for tiny figures has seen Vogue Paris dedicate the February issue to Lara Stone who claims she has “tits and an arse.”

Canadian fashion designer Mark Fast sent three sizes twelve and fourteen models down the runway last September; he is also set to be using more plus size models at his show at London Fashion Week next month. Marks & Spencer’s is also allegedly preparing for a new lingerie collection, with a curvier model.  Retailer Asos is another to use a size 14/16 model for advertising.

“There is now a real ripple of interest around models that are different from the standard catwalk model, who is too thin.” Caryn Franklin, a fashion commentator had said. "We want fashion to enhance women's self-esteem. I'm delighted that Mark is using larger girls because it means his last show wasn't a novelty to get everyone talking but a real commitment," she finished.

A debate to be held in Downing Street hosted by Sarah Brown will also be highlighting the change of opinion; this will correspond with London’s Fashion Week. The aim is to continue encouragement of designers to use larger models.

Morley, a twenty one year old model who has a 34-inch bust, 29-inch waist and 41-inch hips  and is signed to 12+UK Model Agency said; “I think it showed how amazing curvy figures can look in high-end fashion …I am very happy with my body, and I think that is portrayed in my pictures.”

 “Larger girls aren't a gimmick any more. We've seen a genuine, if subtle, change.” Said Sarah Watkinson, who runs 12+ UK.
Head booker at Hughes Models (the UK's first plus-size agency), Sarah Travers said: "The plus-size market used to begin at size 14, while the standard finished at 10. But there is now a lot more work for size 12 and up. We took on 20 more girls last year, which is a lot."

However, only last week at Sao Paulo Fashion Week; an alarm was raised over thin models. The event director, Paulo Borges warned that the thin models are still the most booked in the US and Europe.

Most remain positive in the hope that it’s not just another trend.

Thirty one year old Katie Price, also known as model Jordan lightens her feud with Chelsea White once again; after belief that Chelsea leaked footage of a New Year’s Eve Party.

“Does anyone have Chelsea White's address, so I can send legal letter, so she can't stitch any more people up? Please – she is scum,” Price had been quoted writing on social networking site, Twitter.

Thousands of Twitter followers have questioned the model about the feud between the two; later resulting in a post saying, “Thank you” to one who gave the London Studio address of Whites.

The four minute video consisted of Katie saying about how bad 2009 was. It is reported that a child; assumed to be her son Junior, had said “Don't say it Mummy.” The video was posted on to Youtube. Chelsea has denied it.

“No video was ever sold on my behalf to any newspapers,” Chelsea commented. Spokesperson for Katie Price has refused to comment.

Minougue who has recently came out about her pregnancy; is allegedly taking over Myleen Klass’ place in the M&S Campaign. They are reportedly in the process of putting together a deal; however the spokesperson for the brand has not confirmed any detail.

Dannii believes that her life is hectic at the moment with the outbreak of pregnancy and rumours of modeling contract. “A while ago I went to my doctor for a check-up and he told me I'd got to the stage in my life where I'd have to make decisions about having children,” the judge is much focused on pregnancy than reported M&S campaign.

“I remember thinking, 'Oh God. I'm now that person who is getting too old to have kids'. I told him it wasn't an issue for me because I didn't have a man, there was no one on the horizon, and there probably never would be. "My life has been turned upside down, inside out and everything. I mean everything is fresh and new and exciting,” Dannii added before gushing about her boyfriend, rugby league star Kris Smith. "This guy has changed everything. He's changed me and I just feel like the sun is shining every day. It's amazing. I found The One and I am exploding with happiness.”

It seems as though the former ‘Spice Girl’ is now to take to the modelling industry; Victoria Beckham also known as ‘Posh Spice’ has tackled Britain, America, her own fashion label and is now teaming up with Simon Fuller; whom has a controlling stake in London’s Storm Models.

The pair are embarking on a new business venture in New York city and are looking to set up something similar to Storm in the US. Fuller was also Victoria’s manager in the early Spice Girl days.

A un – named source had said, “Simon knows that Victoria is very savvy when it comes to fashion. His first foray into fashion was to team up designer Roland Mouret and Victoria, which was a huge success. Victoria is a key asset to Simon and he wants her to take on a major role.”

Perhaps, ‘Spice Models’ or ‘Posh Agency’ are names to look for in the US?

“There is no market for plus-size models in Australia.... it would be tokenism to put a plus-size girl through just for the sake of it,” Charlotte; a judge of Australia’s Next Top Model had said. “I would like someone to name a plus-size model in Australia because I can't,” she stated.

Dawson spoke about her opinion of plus – size modeling at the auditions for the sixth series of Australia’s Next Top Model. Hundreds of teens crammed together at Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne.

Although it seems the media and most of the industry has got onto the plus size models scheme; Australia has not yet caught up.
“We could have a plus-size model win the competition and she would end up doing catalogues for Target.”

With last years winner; Tahnee Atkinson was a lovely size ten, yet she was still described as ‘full – figured’ and ‘curvaceous’.

“I think the industry internationally has had enough of the really skinny, scrawny models... you couldn't call Tahnee curvy, she's just a normal, healthy girl,” Dawson had said regarding Tahnee’s figure.

Although the judge has clearly stated her disapproval of plus size models (Which she classes as 14 plus) she allowed a size 14 through to the second stage of the auditions. “She would have been a size 14 top and 16 bottom ... she was one of those beautiful girls who light up the room,” Charlotte had understood.

However she still refuses that a plus size model will win the competition; she believes that it is unfair to the model as she won’t receive much work. “You can't change the industry overnight, there is just not enough work for them in Australia,” Dawson commented.  

The director of plus size modeling agency; BGM Models, Darrianne Donnelly was not pleased with Charlotte Dawson’s comment on the plus size modeling front; Donnelly claims she was severely disappointed with Dawson’s statement.

“For Charlotte Dawson to say there is no plus-size modeling industry in Australia is untrue....I have models out there proving it every day,” Darrianne said. “I have one model who has just landed a contract with Avon in the Philippines and another who is flying down for a shoot with Myer in Melbourne today.”

Chelsea Votano a plus size model had attended the second installment of auditions in Sydney; she believes that despite being rejected she has left with a positive experience.

“At first I was really nervous standing there amongst all those skinny girls but then it became quite empowering, I was there for myself,”

Votano, the 14-16 aspirer said. “I walked in front of the judges and they were really nice and just said I was not what they were looking for.”

It will be interesting to see Australia’s opinion of plus size modeling develop in the near future; with hope that larger models will be treated fairly in a well mixed industry…

The current financial state has really hit hard and Model/Designer Caprice is feeling it.

“It's been a tough year for everyone and my business is no different…. I buy in dollars and sell in sterling so my losses were £1.5 million and that was just exchange rate. I was buying products in the millions, so the losses were obviously huge.”

The 38 year old has struggled with finance as the credit crunch has hit hard, Caprice’s lingerie range has suffered.

“But this year I'm being very conservative with my buys and keeping an eye on the rates… Being a businesswoman is definitely not as easy as modeling, but I am proud of myself for seeing it through.”

Starting her underwear firm in 2000; the collection has been sold at many boutiques, high street shops and online outlets. Caprice has remained in front of the camera for her own clothing range.

“I won't stop modelling as long as they are still re-touching…I re-touch the heck outta my pictures and I am happy to admit it! …Once we finish a shoot, the pictures are sent to Rachel here at the office who does all the retouching for me, so they are perfect. That will never change!”

Caprice certainly isn’t fussed about the public disagreement of airbrushing; she believes that if they were in her position they would too. “I would say to these people 'you would do the exact same thing!' Trust me, if they had the facilities, they would go for it.”

She certainly feels the pressure of running her own business; “I look back in retrospect and remember complaining about long hours, saying it was so difficult. Now I think, are you kidding? It was a walk in the park and I got paid a fortune primarily for doing nothing!”

Caprice has said about how she does miss the modelling days; “Now that I run a business, I appreciate the modelling days. But out of all my accolades this is still what I am most proud of … I worked my hardest and made it work, all of the other ranges out there are license deals - Kylie, Sean Coombes, Elle McPherson. This is all my work and my own money.”

The proud underwear model has successful stirred up a storm in the industry and survived the credit crunch; her next venture will be the stage…

“I think I want to dive back into the entertainment industry - hopefully the West End. I'd love to do a musical or a comedy play. I do probably need to settle down one day. I am 38 after all, but only God knows when that will happen!”

A private investigator had found the man who was held in Austin, Texas. The fraudster had been digitally placing the Bree’s face onto nude images. The Guess model was impersonated by Justin Brown; who also talked to his targets in a high pitched voice on the phone.

“Going to Paris, I had to walk a runway with all these tall skinny models and I almost puked I was so nervous.” The twenty eight year old had said.

“I mean, I can walk a red carpet but walking a runway, I will be the first to fall on my face. And thank god I didn't. But I was so nervous to walk out there and be judged. To just put myself out there like that. Especially next to people that eat just salad.”

“I feel the best I've ever felt, even going back to when I was a teenager…I hate talking about myself like this but I feel really confident…My pictures have been on Facebook and the number of people who have said, 'You should do a shoot yourself'.”

Designer Michelle Mone who created the infamous Ultimo range of bras has shed six stone and now promises to model; the business women has gone from 17stone to a 11 and claims she’s sexier than ever.

"Get me a bra and a thong and I'll do it now. I'll just go and pick out my favourite set… There are literally thousands of people who have said I should do an Ultimo lingerie shoot so it wasn't my idea.”

Dropping from size 20 to a 10 – 12; Mel B, Sarah Harding, Peaches Geldolf and Elen Rives have modeled for her Ultimo range and now with the significant weight loss Michelle believes it is her turn.

“We own a brand called Adore Moi, which Jenni Falconer is the face of just now. It is a very sophisticated brand for women in their 30s and over…And I'm planning to do a shoot for that. I'm always telling women to feel confident in their underwear so why shouldn't I lead by example?”

"The time is right to practise what I preach so you can look out for pictures of me in my hold-ups and my skimpies…I'm going to give myself another couple of months in the gym and then go for it.”

“Last year, if someone had said I'd be up for doing a shoot in my own stuff I'd be like, 'You're having a laugh'…But now I'm like, 'Bring it on. Whatever'…And the money that I'd pay for a day to one of our celebs, I'll donate to a children's charity…It'll be a one-off.”
It seems as though family man Michael is not so keen on his wife striping to help promote her collection; “Michael is quite against me modelling …He doesn't think it's appropriate for a businesswoman to get her kit off…I think it's just a bit of fun and a bit of banter but I'm not getting much support in the Mone household.”

Sixteen year old Rebecca also doesn’t want her mother posing in skimpy lingerie; “Even my eldest daughter's against me. She's like, 'Mum, please don't be silly'…None of the family are supporting me at all but all my friends are saying that I should go for it…I'm determined to do it. I just hope people don't think that I'm far too old to do that.”

Husband Michael is also joining in on the weigh loss; "Michael's started to take TrimSecrets Double Strength as well now so maybe he's thinking he'd better watch himself. But Michael has nothing to worry about - I'm not going to be doing a Hannah Waterman.”

China and Gay rights have come along way over the years; with homosexuality once being classed as a disease and a mental disorder, homosexuals were also persecuted, the situation has now improved.

China’s first gay pageant was shut down just minutes before starting; men were dressed in drag and preparing themselves for a battle to the Mr. Gay title in a Beijing nightclub, police came and closed it down.

After a successful rehearsal on the prior Thursday night, the contestants were hoping that it would raise awareness of homosexuality and prevent discrimination. Eight men were competing for the chance to take part in a Worldwide gay pageant; being held in February, Oslo, Norway.

Pagent organiser, Ben Zhang was desperate to negotiate with the police; “They said the content, meaning homosexuality, there was nothing wrong with that, but you did not do things according to procedures.” Apparently, he needed approval to hold events.

Dressed in a white shirt and tight trousers; contestant Jay had extremely high hopes of winning: “I’m rather disappointed. I never expected they would cancel. It was going to start in a few minutes… I think my figure is my greatest asset,” the hopeful commented.

The competition was supposed to consist of three rounds: the fashion show, the underwear questions and answers segment and the freestyle section. These sections were set to encourage more closet gays to take part.

Several contestants changed there name to English ones to disclose there real identities; most afraid of there parents opinions. Jay is a prime example; “I know it’s possible that my parents could find out after all this publicity. But they want me to get married. Anyway I think they will finally understand because I am their son.”

Last June; a gay pride festival was held in Shanghai however, it was extremely discreet and again authorities had closed down some of the events. These events are seeming to continue until homosexuals are not discriminated against.

It is estimated that there are 30 million homosexuals in China; 300 homosexuals had disapproved the event and over 1000  was pleased to hear about it. We look forward to see the forth coming politics about China and homosexuality.

Billy Joe Saunders a Hatfield boxer was certainly not the only surprised face to see when hearing of a photo shoot Vogue Hommes magazine, a leading men’s style publication; this was following a previous shoot for Love magazine.

“It’s a laugh doing the modelling and I’m flattered that people think I’m good looking enough,” Billy Joe Saunders had commented. “If someone asks me to do a photo shoot then I’m not going to say no, but boxing will always come first - even if I do look like a knockout!”
The now model has been unbeaten in five professional fights; the next will be on February 13th, Wembley. Promoter Frank Warren, claims that that he is a fighter to watch not only this year, but for the rest of the decade.

 “To get comments like that from Frank is a real confidence boost,” Saunders said. “Now it’s up to me to prove him right. I’ve had a good first year as a professional, but I don’t think I’ve boxed to anywhere near my potential yet…Hopefully I will stay busy this year and by the end of it I want to be fighting for titles.”

David Copperfield, magician was according to lawyer part of a vicious attack of "extortion for money, plain and simple".

The 21 year old women had claimed that she was in the audience of a Kennewick, Washington performance when Copperfield spotted her. She was allegedly invited back to his private island in attempt to establish her modeling career. This was where the model was reportedly attacked.

David Copperfield whom has dated supermodel Claudia Schiffer for six years; had the case dropped, no charges were filed.

Gaga is certainly like Marmite; you either love her or hate her but regardless on your feelings about the electro – pop diva, you can’t help but admire the ridiculously unique outfits and style.  Akon, the hip hop artist and founder of GaGa certainly agrees that Gaga is a style icon; “She’ll walk around in London in her underwear and you watch, everyone will catch on.”

Gaga goes on to say she had inspiration from the likes of Madonna, who also made fantastic music; but then her clothing line for H&M plummeted.  However, given the impact that Gaga has already had socially, the likeliness of teenagers in super hot pants and punk jackets is extremely likely.

It seems as though the world and its neighbour is getting on the Gaga bandwagon; the world and its neighbour except designer Antonio Berardi that is. Antonio has refused to work with Gaga because of his choice in music.
“I was approached to design a clothing range with Lady GaGa but I knocked it back because I wasn't interested in someone whose music is meaningless…Her music is meaningless now so what impact will it have in 20 years?”

The designer has undoubtbly not being watching the charts; or looking at teenage girls with there funky style. It will be interested see Gaga’s range…if her range is as unique as her music, we can't wait.

Beginning modelling at the age of twelve; Nicole Clulee thought she had heard it all when Aliana McDaniel claimed to help her with establishment in the modeling industry.

Clulee was quickly signed up to Ali McD Modelling Agency, Trump Model Management and many others in Europe. Now described as “Grown Up” McDaniel believes that 2010 is a year for Nicole to travel.

In 2009; Nicole spent months in London, weeks in Paris and Milan and little time at home in New Zealand. Nicole was constantly busy with meeting significant characters in the fashion industry.

When back in New Zealand, Nicole had little time for family and more time with Cleo magazine, Air New Zealand Fashion Week and designer Lonely Hearts Club. Clulees says she’s used to all the traveling.

“From the outside looking in, modelling "seems amazing" but was "just like any other job”, the young model had commented.

Clulee is looking forward to Singapore, London, New York and the beginning of her life at University of Otago in the near future.

Twenty six year old, Paula Sladewski had been holidaying in the city of New York with partner; Kevin Klym. Paula was a LA based model and had taken part in 'Playboy: The ultimate Playmate search' and was on the rise to success.

The pair had attended a Lady Gaga concert on New Years and spent the weekend in bars and nightclubs welcoming the New Year. The model and boyfriend were seen arguing in Space in the early hours of Sunday morning; this resulted in Kylm being thrown out, Paula was able to stay even though it was claimed she was “too drunk”.

The 34 year old returned to the hotel they were staying in, later that day he filed a missing persons report; it was reported that Kevin had created flyers in a cause to find her. His Lawyer commented “He's devastated and traumatised,” he added that Kevin had “no involvement whatsoever”.

Despite the lawyers best efforts; Detectives have confirmed that Klym is ‘a person of interest’ within the investigation. A member of public had reported a public bin on fire at a back street. The models remains were found, Lt. Neal Cuevas, a North Miami police spokesman, believed that the body was 'burned beyond recognition'. Dental records were needed for identification.

Police have concluded that the model had died before being set a light; the cause of death has not yet been established.

Domestic violence charges had been filed against Paula last June; the couple had been together for two years. The missing persons report said that his occupation was a laborer and the model worked as a private dancer.

Paula’s family were informed of the tragedy on Monday; stepfather Richard Watkins had described there relationship as ‘volatile’. “We were praying it wasn't her. It's been real hard. I didn't know this many tears could fall.”

It seems like China is having westerns take over the modelling industry extremely quickly; it seems as though Beijing department stores are covered with Blue – eyed western models taking over the bill-boards, commercials and runways.

For a country that has roughly 1.3 million people, finding a beautiful model should not be difficult; “ It’s all relatively new,” said the editor of Vogue China. The current phrase to describe China’s fashion industry is, “yangqi” meaning quite literally, “foreign style.”

 “It just reflects the growth of the fashion industry. It needs a variety of girls now. If it's a local Chinese brand, they want to show their clothes look good on Westerners, especially brands that want to sell overseas.” Angelica Cheung, editor of Vogue continued.

Many people from within the industry claim that western models look better in photographs; they also believe that it makes their companies look more international. Allegedly, they believe that if the products are modeled by western models it will encourage sales over seas.

Many European people believe that going to China is now an easy way to make money; as their fashion industry is screaming out for western models. Nicole Vos, a 19 year old Canadian model was walking runways in Toronto; when his agency told him he was going to China.

So next time your visiting China; take a peak at the billboards and campaigns. How many western faces will you recognize?

Models and the modeling industry have been known for their extravagant lifestyles and wild parties; but it seems as though the high lifestyle is taking its turn for charity work. Who knows, perhaps models are sick of having an image of being rude and arrogant? – But for the beginning of 2010, the latest craze is helping those in need.

Tasha de Vasconcelos, began 2009 by setting up a maternity ward in Kasese, Malawi. With support and funding from Louis Vutton; the face of Nivea has done her share with helping the needy.

The fever for helping charities passed quickly on to Gisele Bundchen; whom now helps to protect rainforests in Brazil and is currently the goodwill ambassador for the UN Environment Programme.

Supermodel Natalie Vodianova, helped to raise a disabled sister. As she has made an impact on the fashion industry and stamped into the lives of many; she has set up her own organisation. The Naked Heart Foundation, building playgrounds for Russian children.

Alex Wek, yet another supermodel has helped to improve conditions in Sudan.

These beautiful women have appeared on hundreds of magazines and campaigned for some of the most established designers in the world; thankfully they are now giving a bit back. 2010, perhaps a year for caring that little bit more?

Surprisingly, Joe McEldery the expected Christmas number one was taken out by Rage Against the Machine. It seems like not only half the nation had a keen eye on this years X-Factor, but some of the leading characters at Select Model Management were too.

It seems like the talented singer; Lucie Jones who lost out to Jedward is going to be taking her career in a different light next year. Select Model Management, launched the careers for the likes of Stella Tennant and Agyness Deyn.

“When we first saw Lucie we recognised that she had a great look …As her confidence grew week after week, and her personality came through, we knew that we wanted to work with her.” Said Select Co-Founder, Chrissie Castagnetti.

The Welsh contestant who was advised by Dannii Minogue; appears to have a professional photo shoot lined up for early 2010 and a possibility of modeling work.

Lucie commented, “I love fashion, I love beauty and I love singing, so to be able to model alongside my music is the best Christmas present ever. I can’t wait to get going next year”.

An 18 year old aspiring model thought that her prayers had been answered when she received an email over social networking site, Myspace. Anand Jon appeared on America’s Next Top Model and was said to be one of the most exquisite designers to watch in 2007.

After seeing that Jon had worked with the likes of Paris Hilton and Janet Jackson; Jessie an aspirer decided that given his reputation, Jon would be an excellent break into the industry; she happily went along to meet him.

Anands latest range of jeans set ready to be pulled of the shelves; he asked Jessie to fly over to his apartment all expenses covered. "As soon as I walked in the door, I realized this is not where I'm supposed to be. There was stuff all over the floor. It smelled bad," Jessie Said.

Jon Allegedly started to kiss her, removing her garments; Jessie refused. She reported the designer had raped her and then continued as if nothing had happened afterward. She confided in Jon’s assistants who supposedly said, “Wow, that's not the first time I've heard of that happening.”

Leaving the building, Jessie made an extremely difficult phone call to her father, explaining what had happened. Her father persuaded her to go to the police immediately, after tests Anand Jon was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Jessie’s story persuaded another victim of Jon’s, Autumn to also come forward. Calling Autumn a future ‘It Girl’, her and her family were persuaded that Jon would do well for her career. Autumns parents agreed that the fifthteen year old daughter could go along with Jon to a celebrity gathering.

“The first thing he tried doing was making me a drink. and I was just like, 'I'm too young for that,' like I'm not stupid … He was like, 'Come on, we'll record you. I want to see what you look like on camera.’” Autumn had said.

Jon had told Autumn that to be an ‘It Girl’ she had to make sacrifices, that she needed to lie about her ages, as ‘everybody does it in Hollywood.’ Luckily, Autumn found strength to push Jon away from her and ran away.

Anand’s assistant contacted Autumn and told her about Jessie and how she gone to the police about the attack, this brought Autumn confidence and she followed. Many more models came forward with similar stories as the other two.

The designer had a two month trial in which began in September, 2008. Numerous models came forward and told their stories of the alleged attacks by Jon.

His defense was that the girls were jealous, that they had made up the stories. Jon and his sister, Sanjana claimed that the girls were escorts and addicted to drugs.

Doctors had testified, “Many of them probably felt embarrassed, ashamed, how could this have happened, it's my fault.” Dr. Ann Burgess a professor of psychiatric nursing. Ann also believed that if Jessie hadn’t come forward, the other models wouldn’t have either.

Judge David S Wesley, refused Jon another new trial and sentenced Jon to 59 years to life in a Californian prison. Jon has faced 25 criminal charges, he was found guilty of 14 offenses against nine women.

Jon is also set to face charges in New York and Texas; however it is reported that there may be another appeal coming up. Sadly, for the nine women; they will have to go through the details of the attacks yet again.

Autumn had said “to stand up for yourself and not stay in the dark about it cause it's not okay.” Jessie had also commented, “You need to be strong, and you need to believe in yourself”.

It seems like the Britain Fashion Awards held in Central London certainly had a sight to be seen as supermodels from the sixties, seventies and eighties turned up with their daughters!

Twiggy(60), an icon from the sixties brought her daughter Carly(30) along with her to the awards ceremony, Carly also making a trade in the fashion industry is a print designer working alongside Stella McCartney.

Jerry Hall(53), was demonstrating the seventies with her daughter; Georgia Jagger (17). Jagger has modelled for make-up company, Rimmel and is now to be the face of Versace.

Yasmin Le Bon signifying the eighties also came with her daughter, Amber who has just signed with Models 1: the company that looked after her mother for nineteen years.

Georgia was most defiantly the star of the show as she walked away with the Model of The year Award. Congratulations clearly in order.

Like half of the female population, Emily Smith and Bethany Leader; enjoyed the comforts of Britain’s Next Top Model, amazed by fashion and it’s impact on the world, they both took part in The Elite Model Look contest. The competition is used to scout new models internationally, the gala has been running for twenty – six years and had the likes of Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bundchen and Helena Christensen participate.

The competition had 350,000 entrants and was condensed to a mere 67 contestants from 54 countries. The girls were invited to a five-star hotel in Sanya, a Hainan Island off the southern coast of China; the winner and three runners up will have to walk the catwalk in front of the 3,500 warm seats and compete for a guaranteed modeling income.

Emily is a fifthteen year old school girl from Basingstoke, she strolled into a open casting at Elite’s office in North London, a month later and she is competing in one of the most prestigious modeling competition in the world.

Bethany and Emily had to travel and extravagant journey of 6,000 miles on a 25 hour flight alone; this was a nerve – racking experience that they will never forget. ‘It’s been amazing, just amazing,’ says, sixteen year old Bethany Leader. It was clear that Emily Smith was missing her parents, ‘My parents were really worried. My dad kept going on about who would remind me to take my malaria tablets!’
‘…Emily epitomises the current “look” that all the photographers are after – big-haired, doe-eyed, delicate yet arresting. She is very of the moment and has a real chance here … But it’s tricky,’ Janie says ‘Once she is 16 in January, we are happy to work with her, but it is probably best to wait till she has completed her GCSEs and can take the year out. It’s a big decision for her.’  Janie and Michelangelo were keen to introduce the two British contestants to the Milan and Paris offices.

The two weeks in Sanya educated the girls in how to pose, walk the catwalk and perfect that pout.  The girls learnt how to develop their potential of becoming a Supermodel; they behaved like stars and therefore learnt how to cope with being one. With games on the beach and a poolside buffet it certainly wasn’t all work and no play for the hopefuls.

The competition got heated when the 67 contestants was reduced to 15, Emily Smith luckily made it through, with five outfit changes including ball gowns and little black bikini. However, first place was snapped up by seventeen year old Julia Saner; Emily received joint third.
‘Cindy Crawford and Gisele  were runners-up like Emily. So, you know, it bodes very well!’ Said Michelangelo, with tears over Smiths accomplishment.

‘I can see now that it’s not about being Britain’s Next Top Model or even the next Kate Moss. It’s girls like Constance Jablonski and Charlotte di Calypso who I want to be like,’ Emily Said.

With a long flight ahead her, Emily traveled back to the UK to celebrate her success with her parents and two younger sisters; “I really want to pursue this as a career and there is now a possibility that I can start when I am 16.” She stated.

“Apart from her looks, which are completely on trend for fashion’s current mood, Emily’s personality and attitude is what gives her real starquality… She’s so composed in front of the camera. Already, she instinctively knows how to move and interpret the photographer’s direction, which will make her a dream to work with.” supposed Michelangelo.

Emily Smith is a name to watch out for in the near future, dazzling the judges at Elite Model Look; her future is clearly going to be full of achievement, we look forward to seeing her covers.

The star of The Inglorious Bastards, Diane Kruger  began her career on the catwalk, but it looks like she is going to be heading back into the modeling industry as she has been contracted to L’Oreal subsequent the likes of  Evangeline Lilly and Eva Longoria Parker.

Jasmine Guinness who began her fashion career as a model, posing in front of a tattered Guinness sign in Jamaica was perfect with her bright- blue eyes and porcelain skin; however her natural talent lied within the designing aspect of the industry.

Opening a toy shop in 2006, Jasmine has come far as she is now working with the likes of Caprice, Peaches Geldoff, Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby; “I love clothes and, as a model, it was wonderful to see designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood, Roland Mouret and Jasper Conran at work. I jumped at the chance to start doing my own thing.” She stated.

Jasmine had clearly inherited her passion for design, with the Mitford sisters in her extended family and Lulu Guinness who designed handbags.

 “There’s a mix of 1920s, ’30s, ’40s, ’60s and ’70s in what I do. My prints might be inspired by paintings, a dress might be based upon a silhouette in a drawing of one of my great-aunts. It’s about clothes I know that work for a cross-section of women – girls I see in the street, my friends. I’m not 24 any more and I’m inspired by real women, not size-zero models.” Jasmine explained.

Her spring and summer collection completed and on sale as from January, Guinness begins on her autumn and winter range. “It’s all about fit and flatter. A woman wants something that holds her tummy in and her bosom up.”

As the last few years have passed, we have watched models weight fluctuate to fit in with the current fashion trend, we have seen this pass on to the public and watched as girls from as little as twelve years old diet or make themselves sick after eating so that they look the way that models do.

Ana Carolina Reston was a beautiful model from Sao Paulo, Brazil; represented by the prestigious Ford, Elite and L’Equipe Ana travelled the world and modelled for campaigns such as Armani.

Sadly, she had been criticised for being ‘too fat’, this resulted in Reston developing anorexia nervosa and Bulimia she passed away on 15th November 2006. The World Health Organisation considers a BMI (Body Moss Index) of 16 or under as starvation. Ana had a BMI of just 13.4 when she died.

On the 2nd of August 2006, Luisel Ramos a Uruguayan model died of heart failure which was also caused by anorexia nervosa; she has adapted to a diet of lettuce leaves and diet cola. Her BMI was 14.5.

Her younger sister Eliana Ramos also modelled, she passed away on 13th February 2007, at a young age of eighteen. She died of a heat attack, believed to be caused by malnutrition.

It is sad to say that many people, models and the public has tragically died because of a lack of eating healthy. You should try to maintain a balanced diet, and eat a minimum of three times everyday and remember to eat in moderation.

Everybody has there own unique shape and size; you should always remember that you are beautiful the way you are. Fashion goes through trends which change extremely quickly, trying to keep up with the latest “skinny” of “fuller” figures is dangerous.
Love yourself the way you are, the world is full of different figures; that is what makes models become established, that they have something new to bring to the industry.

Shock was sweeping across the model industry tonight (Sunday 29th November 2009), as reports that Solange Magnano (1994 former miss Argentina), has died following complication with some cosmetic surgery.

Solange has for some time been obsessed with maintaining her perfect perk looks, the 38 year old has undergone some four - six operations.  The mother of two maintained a busy modelling career and even though her modelling contracts were reducing Solange had recently opened her own Model Agency.

Although the media across the country have got on the bandwagon of blaming cosmetic surgery for Solange’s death – the model actually died from a Pulmonary embolism (a blockage in the main artery within the lung).  Unfortunately, any operation carries an element of risk and should only be undertaken after considering all the risks involved.

Solange should be remembers as the successful and exceptionally beautiful person she was and our wishes go out to her family.

''I used to have 20/20 vision and my dream was to join the RAF and become a jet or helicopter pilot… But that has been written off because of what happened. It was so unnecessary and had no impact on the people who carried out the attack.” Said Joshua Harvey a 21 year old from Exeter, Devon.

Harvey was attacked on November 25, at 1.30 am after leaving a nightclub; he had been attacked by seven men whom knocked his eye out of its socket, doctors had to insert 3 metal plates and believe that he will never regain full sight.

''There were multiple kicks and punches to my face. I had bruises all over my face and a sore throat from where I was strangled …I had a modelling contract but now have a lovely big scar on my face …I am so angry and I don't even want to go outside.'' Joshua Continued.
Police have been lead to the conclusion that the incident was unprovoked and will cause Joshua many long – term consequences.

'We desperately need to find the people responsible for this. ''There was nothing to provoke this incident which has had a major impact on Joshua's opportunities in life.'' Det Supt Colin Taylor, or Exeter CID explained.

Ella Rose Corby entered a competition created by Stab Magazine; renowned for its celebration of sex, partying and edge Ella won the contest and appeared as a contentious cover girl.

'They are moving into womanhood and they know it.  'They dress older, sneak into clubs and are easily mistaken for adults...You can leer at the 16-year-old as you would an adult woman, so long as you're  ignorant.  'Once you become aware of their age, you must look away.' Said Michael Jennings, a writer for Stab magazine, this article was in the issue that had Ella as a cover girl, he was clearly attempting to defend the magazines use of a 16 year old girl.

The magazine has recently been slandered for its use of a young girl as a form of promotion, 'I think photographs like these are inappropriate, particularly when the young woman is only 16.' Said Local MP Justine Elliot.  The image in itself consisted of Corby posing nude with graffiti all over her body, Ella preserved herself by crossing her leg and covering her chest.

Winning a prize resulting in representation by Chic Management, Ella Rose Corby has been bullied by her peers because of the nude cover. 'She is encountering some bullying from other girls of her age. ‘I think the family are a bit overwhelmed at the moment, they really are. The  mum's in a bit of shock.' Said Kathy Ward Chic’s representative.

'From Chic's point of view, the shoot that Ella participated in was totally  inappropriate … we would never allow such a shoot to progress if we knew that  that was the creative brief,' she said. Kathy Ward also said that Ella was worried about the impact the photo shoot would have on her modeling career.

According to Stab’s magazine journalist Ella’s nude poses were the beginning of a dream for her, however when her mother found out she apparently “freaked out.”  Her father believed that it was something that she would have to get used to if she was to continue to work within the industry.

Let this be a reminder to young models that to participate in a photo shoot; you must have a parent or guardian to go along with you to prevent any danger. You can always say no and not allow yourself to be pushed in to a situation you are not comfortable with.

Ford and V magazine have collaborated again in search of the next big thing in the modeling industry. The winner will of course appear in a spread for V magazine and a modeling contract with Ford Models. “It’s another way of saying this winner will hit the fashion ground running," said Ford.

With more than 6,000 model applicants last year, Norwegian Lea Groesland the 15 year old won the competition and has since appeared in a Benetton Campaign.

Modelling for the likes of designers such John Galliano, Christian Dior and Prada; Miss O’Conner the model from Walsall is estimate to be worth £12 Million according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

O’ Conner a face of Marks and Spencer’s, was once described by Karl Lagerfeld as an ‘anti – beauty’. The 31 year old was regularly told to have cosmetic surgery within the beginning of her modelling career.

“In the early days of my modelling career, I think the industry was uncomfortable with how strikingly different I was. For example, I was told to have a nose job and get my breasts done. But I suddenly got very stubborn and thought ‘Well, no." She explained.  

“This is me,’ and suddenly I was being hailed as ‘a new form of beauty’. So I was able to advance my personality just by being the person I was to the outside world – six foot tall and authoritative,” O’ Conner told the Radio Times.

Cosmetic surgery in the UK has tripled in the last 6 years to a exorbitant 34,000 cases, mostly consisting of tummy tucks, nose jobs and Breast enhancements. The worrying thought is that this is due to the pressure put on by society to look a particular way.

“I worry about how accessible cosmetic surgery has become. Of course, if it has genuinely helped people and their confidence has grown as a result, who am I to form an opinion? But I think there are better routes to confidence than trying to freeze time.” She said.

Erin O’Conner has criticized designers and there force on the industry creating the size zero obsession believing that they are producing clothing that even the skinniest women could not fit into. She also spoke about ageism and how it is assumed that with age you lose your image. “I am concerned about ageism in society and the loss of beauty, the perception that as you grow older, you ‘lose your looks’, which I think is diabolical.”

However, she appears in a campaign for Marks and Spencer’s with Mylene Class also 31 and Twiggy who is 60; this is a rare exception in the industry for an older lady to be featured on television. It is fantastic to see an older model still be used for campaigns, this should become a ‘trend’ instead of a size fascination.

A young South Korean model was found hanged in her Paris apartment by her boyfriend according to a police official.

Daul Kim worked regularly in Paris, New York and Milan; she was said to be under a lot of stress and pressure. Police have been working over the theory that the 20 year old had committed suicide.

Persistent blogs have assisted the hypothesis thought of by the police, "mad depressed and overworked," "the more i gain the more lonely it is ... i know i'm like a ghost." These were posted October 30th 2009.  Her last blog titled “say hi to forever”, contained the music video I Go Deep" by British singer Jim Rivers; November 18th 2009.  Needless to say, it sounded like Kim was not in a stable situation within her conscious.

South Korean bloggers are in bereavement of Daul’s death assuming she had lost herself within the high fashion industry. Alessandra Bertoldini, Kim’s Agent from Next model agency said that Dauls mother was arriving in Paris on Friday; however she declined to go in to details.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has thirty nations and among them, South Korea has the highest suicide rate. Over the past year it has had various deaths of high-flyers such as Former President Roh Moo-hyun jumped to his death after a scandal.

In a popular South Korean soap opera, a young, admired actress committed suicide in 2008, and to join this Choi Jin – Sil an extremely triumphant actress also took her life in a similar pattern.

Known for her astonishing figure, standing at 5”10; Daul Kim astounded people by her stunningly thick hair which ranged from her naturally dark colour to blonde. Having an impeccable taste in fashion, Kim had worn like Chanel, Dries van Noten and Maison Martin Margiela, and had freshly appeared in a commercial for Christopher Kane’s range at Topshop.

Daul Kim had traveled the world in her extravagant modeling career; although the details of her death are not certain; we gladly respect the work she did within the industry may she rest in peace.

On 12th November 2009, Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate announced plans to ban upfront fees.  This was a move welcome by many within the entertainment industry in particular. Although this move has not gone as far as we had hoped, it is we believe a start on a long path for reform and legislation within the model industry.

However, after contacting the Department for Culture (the government department setup specifically to improve the Entertainment and Culture Industries), we were surprised that James Butler goes on to advise us “We do not believe that regulation is required” when discussing the need for regulation to protect models.

With a very unclear knowledge of both the model industry and the need for reform, one would surely be surprised that the Culture advisor was making such sweeping comments?  In fact one may ask where / who Mr Butler had consulted to get his conclusion, as it was not anyone within the model industry (but perhaps the source would prove as difficult as weapons of mass destruction to find?).

Unlike many governments across the world we have been in contact with, in regards to regulation reform; we are surprised that the UK government has been so non-committal and in denial that a problem exists.   Perhaps they are looking at setting up their own Institute of Modeling; labour has always been about “jobs for the boys” and lets face it most of them only have six months left in their current roles.

Perhaps a Conservative government will have a fresh look at working directly with industry experts and consulting the industry rather than their text books.

Founded in 2003 by the model agency Profile; the 22 year old model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley  has been featured in campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and DKNY., the beautiful model replaced Agyness Dyne as the face of Burberry.

However the tables took a turn for the worst in 2008; when a picture of her which looked like she was holding a ‘bong’ was released on to the internet. A friend of hers jumped to the defense saying that ‘She is aware of the picture’s existence, but she was 18 or 19 when that was taken. She’s just turned 21 so it’s two or three years old.’ Burberry declined to comment. She was then dropped by the fashion house.

She also recently split from her long-term boyfriend, Tyrone Ronnie from the Rolling Stones son whom she met in Barcelona 2007. Tyrone had claimed to be ‘madly, deeply in love’ at an interview in 2008. They still remain friends, but Rosie says she can now completely focus on work.

This year the model from Tavistock in Devon, was named Model Of The Year at Elle Style Awards. Rosie declares that she knew she was meant for something big when she was offered to participate in the campaign for Victoria’s Secret, in conjunction with Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and  Marissa Miller.

'I'm very proud to be the only British spokesmodel for Victoria's Secret. It has been an ongoing relationship for four years now, and 2009 has been such an exciting year for me…I have lots of projects in the pipeline. I'm gearing up for the Victoria's Secret show in New York City this week, and am looking forward to the release of the 2010 Pirelli Calendar. I hope 2010 will bring more exciting opportunities and projects,’ Rosie said.

She flew to Brazil to shoot for the 2010 calendar. Rosie will reportedly be taking part in the annual Victoria's Secret catwalk, to be viewed by millions.

“Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”

Why everyone feels the need to jump onto a comment as if it were a sermon given to pilgrims on how to live their live, who knows?   The latest ‘Kate scandal’ to hit every paper in the UK, implying that skinny feels good!

Kate Moss is on this occasion right; skinny does feel better than any food tastes.  However, given the fact that we are becoming a obese society, I guess it’s no real surprise Kate has been given some hassle over this comment.

However, putting the blame on her for all teenage anorexia in the same week as bullying is blamed for anorexia seems a little over the top.

Models such as Kate Moss would not sell if she had a fuller figure and fuller more rounded face – she would be your average next door girl.  Kate Sells magazines because of her well defined and toned figure and if you were earning £10m a year for been skinny, I’m sure you would feel pretty good too.

Lets get some perspective, Kate’s BMI is 18.1, okay this is just under the 18.5 guideline, but is no more likely to cause health problems than our UK average of BMI 24.7 (Avg Height 5.4 / Weight 65kg)

We are in no way suggesting that denying food is good when its prolonged, but this was never the suggestion.  A healthy eating pattern is very important, an average diet in the life of Kate consists of  Pro-biotic yogurt toast and fruit, Grilled meat and veg for Lunch and Dinner – if only we all had that control!

The two teenagers are believed to be stirring up a storm in the fashion industry, Aimee 13 and Liam Chirio 15; are just two average teenagers with common passions for music, dance, motorbikes and football.

But it seems that they are naturally meant for the catwalk, Aimee the younger of the two educated at St. Monica’s College believes that being involved with the drama and dance department at school has encouraged her confidence with seen infront of large groups.

Liam Chirio attending St. Augustine’s College, has volunteered for many school TV commercials and has begun to feel relaxed with modeling. The pair have already featured in charity parades and entered modeling by participating with Velvet Underground presented by Nikki’s Hair Design at Edmonton.

Liam and Aimee are set to appear in Opals Fashion Bash, Townsville; they are said to compete in the Miss Australia fashion awards and Rachael Finch Rising Star Award. The Chirio two are a pair to watch in the up and coming future as they have already made a dramatic entrance to the industry in Cairns.

After many celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Jessica Parker bringing out fragrances, Kate Moss launching a range at Topshop, the next to embrace designing a campaign is Claudia Schiffer.

Appearing in over 500 magazine covers, Claudia Schiffer a supermodel putting her stamp on the 1990’s is allegedly producing her own fashion range. After representing many different brands, supporting various designer labels; Schiffer is now looking for partners to back the launch of her line.

Claudia claims that it takes her a long time to become close to somebody, but once the friendship is there it will not be broken. Enjoying doing things that make her feel good about herself, Schiffer is now pulling on those friendship string to help her promote her latest project of her clothing line.

Staring in Chanel and Guess campaigns her brand is reportedly to feature handbags and cashmere as Claudia feels that Cashmere is something classic, in which she’d love to put her own fashion spin on it. The supermodel claims that customers know when the producer doesn’t believe in there own product, which is why she is using cashmere in her campaign.

Schiffer states that although she has new interests, she is maintaining her modeling career; Claudia is still representing Yves Saint Lauren and Alberta Ferretti in recent promotions. We Expect Schiffer will receive as much success with her latest business interest as she did with her modeling career.

Susie Hutson, the 30 year old mum of one; victoriously beat 10,000 hopefuls to a £50,000 modeling contract.

"I wanted to turn my life around and do something for me…There were so many girls who entered, I didn't expect to win. I'm still in shock …I have always wanted to be a working mum and make my son proud …When I said I wanted to do modelling a lot of people told me I was too old, but that just spurred me on. You're never too old, really … I want to inspire mums out there to follow their dreams so they have something when the kids grow up." She said.

Susie will be the face of Wickedelic Lingerie, creating a 2010 calendar; the proceeds will go to charities such as Combat Stress and Help for Heroes. The now Pin Up for Wickedlic posed for Peterborough United FC, to persuade votes to help her win the competition.

"I thought it would be great to get the forces to help me with it, and there are loads stationed near Peterborough …Some of the boys asked me to be the squadron sweetheart, which was an even greater honour than winning the competition." Hutson said pleased about being the RAF’s sweetheart.

Left pregnant and made redundant just before her now two year old son was born, has certainly received a change in her luck since entering the competition. With a 34B bust, she can now buy her son all the things he needs to help support him with his hearing difficulties.
With a visit to 3 Squadron at RAF Wittering resulting in a little romance, Susie is certainly setting a prime example to single mums with ambition. "I met him on my second visit there and he's asked me to wait for him. I said yes straight away…I know it sounds cheesy but we just clicked. He's the one I've been waiting for …I know I'll be a blubbering mess when he goes, but I'd love to visit the troops for support when they're out there."

The modeling industry is an easy place to manipulate young hopefuls, many agencies and agents have taken advantage of this by charging an upfront fee, claiming to find work and then not fulfilling there promises.

This exploitation has been going on for many years and sadly a large amount of models have experienced problems with recruitment agencies promising work and not delivering. However, after a long hard debate to help prevent this mistreatment of models; finally the realisation that a ban of upfront fees is needed.

From October 2010, new regulations will mean that agencies will not be able to charge upfront fees; this will hopefully reduce the exploitation. Although this is a promising start, the industry still has many flaws waiting to be resolved; hopefully this ban will act as a catalyst.

Kate Moss spotted whilst at an airport, Liberty Ross discovered as she was shopping on Oxford Street; the scouts from Storm Model Management are back on the search for the latest talent in the fashion and modeling industry.

The coach company National Express and Storm Model Management have collaborated to tour the U.K in search of the next big thing in the fashion world.  

“We’re really confident that we’ll find some incredible British talent to work with … It’s a great opportunity for us as it’s a unique idea. We’re very excited about who could be out there just waiting for a lucky break,” explained Sarah Doukas.

The alliance is searching for young hopefuls that use national express services and are offering a modeling contract with Storm Models for the winner. Prospective models will be entered in to the competition; potential scouts are also being watched with a unique opportunity presented by Storm.

Angelic eyes, a flawless pout, wonderful cheekbones and glistening skin; Lila Grace the next generation of Moss is setting hopes high already as she perfects her mums catwalk pose.

Iris, Sadie Frost and Jude Law’s daughter, had an eighth birthday party that will never be forgotten. With the theme being ‘Model’, who better to teach Iris and Lila Grace how to walk the runway with style; than the infamous Kate Moss herself.

Kate brought the eight year olds a variety of clothes to wear, to help them create the model look at their catwalk party. The girls had their hair and make – up done professionally for the occasion.

Most of the young girls at the model party wanted to be Kate, it seems that the ‘I don’t care pose’ has also caught Lila and Iris as they now also want to model too. Its not surprising that Lila is following in mummy’s footsteps, making a fashion statement is the least as Lila-Grace promotes an ‘I Love Kate Moss’ T-Shirt.

The launch of the new line at Topshop set to commence, will mini moss be supporting the campaign; by modeling anymore Kate moss ensembles. We look forward to seeing more from Lila – Grace and her mum Kate Moss.

After a tragic death of Australian actor Heath Ledger; Gemma Ward who was said to be dating him vanished from the eyes of the fashion industry. It has been reported that she was under a lot of pressure and criticism regarding her weight.

Previously criticised for being to thin, she has now received various vicious online attacks from a world-wide blogger concerning her new fuller figure. Gemma has reportedly claimed no immediate plans to return to the limelight.

However, Ward has support from her agency and many others around her to help her through this difficult time and we hope to see her walking the runway again, regardless of what size and weight she is.

Fraudsters have been exploiting people in the modeling industry for many years, although the industry is attempting to prevent this; rogue agents are now appearing as legit agencies, by illegally using the branded name.

FHM, and Glamour have each been affected by these hoax agencies, con-artists have used there name to manipulate models in to paying money for photo shoots that never happen.

The addresses and names that the tricksters were using were traced, leading to people that had no connection to any of the businesses. When researching into model agencies, be careful to prevent being scammed.

Most of these fake agencies will use free email addresses, such as gmail, or hotmail. If it is a valid company the email address will be similar to the company name for example, info@instituteofmodeling.org.

Also, check the address of the company; an established agency will be featured all over the internet, see if the address is the same on several different websites that you trust. If it isn’t avoid the agency, its better to protect yourself from the hoaxes than to hope they are official.

Scammers are smarting there ways to exploit models, they are constantly finding new ways to hoax people. Remember to be wise and if the address or email doesn’t seem correct, it probably isn’t. Do not trust it.  If In doubt check out the agency on the Institute of Modeling website.

Lettuce leaves and water isn’t a diet for Lily Cole, unlike most models who suffer from a fear of food, Lily loves to cook and try a variety of different foods. Starting with a salad, with a mix of blue cheese, figs and pine nuts; she also likes a bit of spice by adding cloves to rice and making vegetarian curries.

Enjoying cooking with her family and friends, a nice leisurely stroll through the Hyde Park and stopping off for a bite to eat at the Orangery restaurant sounds like her perfect afternoon.

Combining modeling with her education has been a hard  for Lily but has made her the down to earth person she is, university and her modeling career; at the weekend its time for her to let her hair down. A party on a Saturday night with a live band, a lazy Sunday with a good book or film is the perfect break from Cole’s hard working life.

Cole’s mother Sadie Cole, is an artist, so appreciation for fine art comes naturally, her opinion of good artwork is something that interrupts history.  As Christmas is upon us, Lily believes it’s a time in which she can get away from work and concentrate on her family.

Although, her TV show revolves around celebrities and Hollywood, Chelsea believes that she wouldn’t be concerned if Hollywood disappeared; the hearty 34 year old claims there are some celebrities she enjoys joking about and others that she doesn’t.

A model agency based in the West Midlands is proof that an agency doesn’t have to be based in London to achieve, Wolverhampton model agency, Sapphires has competed against international agencies and achieved the contract with Japans leading chain, Uniqlo.

“When we opened a modeling agency outside of London people thought we were mad, but now we’re working with some big industry people across the world and we hope that it will encourage other creatives in the region to strive for the same success.” Says Ms Reyes, who set the business up as of a loan from the Princes Trust Award 2005.

Neely Reyes could not believe her luck when Ms de Villeneuve from Sapphires Model Agency was selected for Uniqlo in a 2009 Winter Fleece Campaign. With conference calls from her living room, Neely has proved that smaller companies can compete against the high-flying establishments of London.

Its seems as though modelling isn’t only for super skinny leggy women, but babies too; the BBC took a look into the lives of people whom allow there children to take part in modelling, the documentary was called; My Supermodel Baby.

“The key to all this is keeping it very very natural,...What you don't want is an artificial image.” Mark the casting director has said as he goes into Photoshop; the eyes get brightened, the skin tightened and dribble wiped away and there you have it a picture perfect cover baby.

For some covers a mother or father is needed too, as for ‘keeping it real’ a model mother is used, with her delicate porcelain skin and stretch free figure. “It has to be believable,” Ruth the Art Director commented, “We can't afford to put a cover out there and people go: mmm, that's a model, and that's not her baby.”

Whilst a model stands holding the baby cradling it, just how a real mother should; the real mothers are behind the camera jumping around and pulling silly faces so that there child can laugh and smile for the camera, picture perfect. Not bad for £60 an hour, babies aged 18 to 24 months seem to be the next catwalk superstars.
